As I prepare for the final day of summer camp tomorrow, I'm feeling incredibly grateful.

This has been my first full summer of Madeleine's Kids Classes, and it's been filled with so many joyful moments.

Children who arrived feeling nervous and left full of confidence.

New friendships formed over mixing bowls and cookie dough.

Stories, laughter, messy aprons, flour-covered counters, and so many proud smiles.

Watching children discover what they're capable of has been the greatest reward.

Even though summer is coming to an end, our kitchen is just getting started.

This fall I'll be offering cozy baking workshops, school break camps, and after-school baking clubs, and I'd love to welcome both returning and new families.

Our first workshop is a Labor Day Fall Baking Workshop on September 7, where young bakers will make Maple Cinnamon Scones, Caramel Apple Nachos, enjoy warm apple cider, and celebrate the beginning of fall together.

I can't wait to keep creating with you this season. ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ

Woodland Creatures Camp is off to a wonderful start!

Today we stepped into the woodland world with a focus on Foxes and spent the day creating, baking, and imagining together.

The campers worked so hard making apple hand pies completely from scratch. They mixed pie dough, peeled and chopped apples, and carefully assembled their little fox pies. After all that work, it was so rewarding to watch them enjoy them fresh from the oven!

We also painted woodland fox rocks and began creating animal habitat dioramas. I loved seeing how differently each child imagined their own woodland world using boxes, clay, and construction paper. Their creativity was incredible.

One of my favorite things about teaching is watching children become completely absorbed in a project. Today there were so many moments where the room grew quiet because everyone was focused on creating something they were proud of.

Those are the moments I love most. ๐Ÿ’›

As we wrap up our final summer camp this week, I'm also excited to share that registration for my Fall baking workshops and school break camps is now open! ๐Ÿ‚

I can't wait to continue baking and creating your kiddos this fall.

Today I'm gathering ingredients, setting out art supplies, choosing storybooks, and getting everything ready to welcome another wonderful group of young explorers.

Woodland Baking & Art is our final camp of the summer, and I can't think of a better way to end the season.

This week we'll bake woodland-inspired treats, create nature art, explore outdoors, visit the playground and duck pond, and spend our days making, imagining, and discovering together.

As I get the classroom ready tonight, I'm feeling so grateful.

Thank you to every family who has trusted me with your children this summer. Watching them grow in confidence, creativity, kindness, and curiosity has been the greatest joy.

Here's to one more week of muddy shoes, flour-covered aprons, happy hearts, and unforgettable memories.

As I prepare for my final summer camp next week, I've been thinking about what has made this first summer so special.

Of course we've baked cookies, bread, pasta, cupcakes, ice cream, fruit tarts, and so many other delicious treats.

But when I look back, those aren't the moments I'll remember most.

I'll remember the shy camper who left camp feeling confident.

The child who proudly taught classmates how to make pasta.

The camper who described our Stone Soup as "seasoned with love."

The child who turned a few bowls and cups into a homemade water fountain simply because he was curious.

Those moments remind me that Madeleine's Kids Classes has never been just about baking.

It's about giving children a place to create, wonder, make friends, solve problems, and discover what they're capable of.

Next week we'll gather one more time for our final summer adventure: ๐ŸŒฒ Woodland Baking & Art.

I'm so grateful to every family who has trusted me with their children this summer. Thank you for making this first season such a joyful one. ๐Ÿ’›

โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿงช Today at STEM Kitchen Lab, we explored the science of heat and energy!

The campers designed solar ovens, made bagel pizzas and s'mores using the power of the sun, experimented with turmeric sun prints, tested different materials to see what kept ice cubes frozen the longest, and had a blast using an infrared thermometer to measure the temperature of just about everything!

One of my favorite moments wasn't part of the lesson plan at all. While we were rinsing bowls outside, one camper began stacking them in our outdoor wash sink. He figured out how to weigh them down so they wouldn't float away, then poured water into the top to create his own little fountain. Soon other campers were gathered around watching and experimenting too.

Moments like that remind me that some of the best learning happens when children are given the time and freedom to wonder, experiment, and create.

Today was definitely messy, sunny, and full of discovery. ๐Ÿ’›

๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿงช Today, our kitchen became both an art studio and a science lab!

We began the morning wondering...

Can we make color from nature?

The campers explored spinach, beets, and purple cabbage, then helped transform them into beautiful natural food dyes. Pressing the blender button was definitely a favorite job! ๐Ÿ˜„

Next, we became pasta makers.

Each camper cracked an egg into a mound of flour and learned how simple ingredients can become fresh pasta. One of our campers had made pasta at home many times before so I invited him to demo the past dough process with me and he rocked it. It was so sweet seeing him helping and encouraging the other children.

After giving our dough time to rest, everyone patiently took turns using the pasta machine to roll and cut fettuccine. It took focus, patience, and perseveranceโ€”and I was so proud of how hard they worked. Then we enjoyed our homemade pasta fresh with butter and Parmesan. (A few noodles stuck together, but that's part of learning!)

The experimenting didn't stop there.

We made color-changing lemonade using butterfly pea flowers and discovered that science doesn't always taste exactly the way you expect! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Finally, we finished the day by making buttercream frosting from scratch and turning cupcakes into edible works of art. Using paint brushes, food coloring, and frosting palettes, every camper created something completely unique.

Let's just say... there was frosting everywhere.

Including on a few very happy faces. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’—

Messy? Absolutely.

Creative? Without a doubt.

Days like today remind me that some of the best learning happens when children are encouraged to experiment, create, and discover with their own hands. ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿงช๐Ÿ—๏ธ Day 2 of STEM Kitchen Lab was all about engineering!

We started the morning by drawing blueprints of the structures we hoped to build before checking on our rock candy experiment. The excitement was contagious as everyone noticed the crystals beginning to grow!

Then it was time to become engineers.

Together we mixed up cookie dough from scratch, built marshmallow-and-toothpick prototypes, and cut geometric shapes from our chilled dough. It was so much fun watching each child take the same basic materials and imagine something completely different.

After lunch, we mixed our "cement" icing and got to work constructing our cookie creations.

Some campers carefully built towers, houses, and geometric sculptures. One child even added four windows and a light fixture to his cookie house!

Others decided the engineering materials were simply too delicious and happily ate their cookies and icing instead. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Honestly... both approaches seemed equally successful.

We wrapped up the day by building marshmallow catapults, and the room quickly filled with laughter as marshmallows flew through the air (and occasionally landed in mouths!).

It was definitely our messiest day of camp so farโ€”but also one of the most creative.

Watching children imagine, experiment, solve problems, and proudly carry their creations home is exactly why I love teaching STEM through cooking.

I can't wait to see what tomorrow's discoveries bring! ๐Ÿ’›
