LAST DAY of Winter Session this Monday!

The kids have a fun child-led coding club at Tall Mountain Homeschool. They've made a maze game they're very proud of, and I've been inspired by watching them all work together. If your kid would be interested in joining us now at 1:30 or in the spring session (we'll meet at 12:30 starting April 6), or if you'd like to hear our little update, read on!

The first week, they dove in headfirst to Roblox Studio and just started throwing parts on the board. Not surprisingly, the game quickly became unstable and unplayable. They backtracked through the additions until they figured out what was causing the glitch.

The next week, they regrouped and began with planning discussions about what they wanted to build and, more importantly, what they would name it. 😁 When they got bored of polls, they started in on the game design again, but intentionally this time.

In the weeks since, they've built up their maze game in both looks and function, and they're really happy with their progress. I haven't had to intervene except to help move tables closer to outlets when someone needed to plug in! They're including each other and working great as a team.

If you're interested in joining us, we'd love to have you! We meet at Van Asselt Community Center during the Tall Mountain Homeschool sessions on Mondays. It's free to join the club, and it's drop-in so no registration needed. Kids should bring a laptop or tablet and either have a Roblox login for Studio access or be willing to work on other projects while the Roblox kids craft their game. (We have a couple club members who do that instead.) The club is currently a mix of teens and tweens. Younger kids welcome, but they might need parent assistance.

We currently meet at 1:30 until March 9. The spring session starts April 6 and runs through June 15, and we'll switch to 12:30 then. Hope to see some more coding kids join us!

Enrollment opens March 3 at noon! Can't wait to see you in our fun spring classes.

Just a reminder that the community center will be closed tomorrow, Feb. 16, for the Presidents' Day holiday so no Tall Mountain Homeschool.

We'll see everyone next week! 🩵
