This week was all about giving your whole heart, mind & body.
Community Week at Jhamtse looked like this: four teams, one field, every age running, jumping, singing, dancing together.
The rain came. The energy and the emotions only grew louder.

From the fields of her village to becoming an Amchi la: a doctor of Tibetan medicine, Tenzin’s journey is one of quiet strength and determination.
Tenzin lost her mother at a very young age. Her father, a farmer with a big family to support, worked hard to make ends meet, but education remained out of reach.
When we first met Tenzin, she was in the fields; barefoot, covered in dust, helping her father with farm work. She spoke very little, carrying a quiet strength shaped by responsibility and the life she had known.
After completing Grade 12, Tenzin made a decision that would shape her path. She wanted to study something meaningful, something rooted in tradition and healing.
With guidance from her teacher, she discovered Sowa Rigpa, the ancient science of healing.
Determined to pursue it, she prepared for and cleared a highly competitive entrance examination, earning admission to ༄༅། །འགྲོ་ཕན་བོད་ཀྱི་སྨན་རྩིས་ཁང་། Men-Tsee-Khang (the Tibetan Medical & Astro Institute).
Her journey began with six months of foundational training in Dharamshala, followed by five years of intensive study in Bangalore, where she completed her Bachelor of Sowa Rigpa Medicine and Surgery (BSRMS / Kachupa).
On 23rd March, she officially graduated, receiving her degree and becoming an Amchi—a doctor of Tibetan medicine.
Around this time, she also had the opportunity to meet His Holiness the Dalai Lama with her batch, an experience that deeply inspired her commitment to serve with kindness and compassion.
Today, as a first-generation learner and the first person from her village to pursue this field, Tenzin is preparing to begin her own practice, making Sowa Rigpa more accessible to her community. ❤️
“With Gratitude in my heart, I’m ready to begin this next chapter”
— Amchi la Tenzin

Dawa grew up in deeply challenging circumstances.
Both of her parents suffered from severe alcoholism, and her father likely passed away due to related causes. Her mother, still struggling with addiction, works as a subsistence farmer when she’s able to. Dawa’s home life was marked by instability, hardship, and a lack of consistent support.
Despite these obstacles, Dawa’s journey has become one of resilience and hope. After graduating from Jhamtse Gatsal, she earned a scholarship to pursue higher education in Bangalore. Now in her third year of college, Dawa is studying History and thriving in an environment where she can grow and explore her potential. A dedicated and thoughtful student, she’s still discovering the path she’ll take after graduation but one thing is certain: Dawa is determined to use her education to give back and make a meaningful difference in the world.
Her Amala often describes her as gentle; someone who steps forward to help, who notices others, and who carries kindness naturally. Today, younger children look up to her, trust her, and follow her. Even adults turn to her, because there is something steady and grounding in her presence.
At Jhamtse, the transformation is not only about education or opportunity. It is about a shift in the very questions children carry within themselves.
They arrive asking:
Can I survive?
And slowly, over time, that question becomes:
How can I give back? How can I help others?
Dawa embodies that shift.
This is the real story.
Jhamtse is not only a place that supports children in need, it is a place where human beings are nurtured with care, values, and love. And in a world that needs kindness more than ever, Dawa is one of those quiet changemakers. She carries resilience, but also gentleness. She has known hardship, yet chooses compassion.

Today, on International Women’s Day, we had the honour of receiving an award recognizing our work in the field of women and child development.
We are deeply grateful to the Department of Women and Child Development and the State Government of Arunachal Pradesh for this recognition and for supporting efforts that nurture and protect the wellbeing of children and women.
This honour reflects the collective dedication, compassion, and commitment of the entire Jhamtse Gatsal family—our children, caregivers, teachers, staff, and supporters who continue to create a safe and loving environment for every child.
With gratitude today, and hope for the future. ❤️
