A unique tutoring service that specializes in developing 1-on-1 tutoring programs designed to teach specific reading and writing methods and strategies.
The Writer's Block was born from my experience as a writing tutor for my University Writing Center. I gained invaluable experience working with a variety of students on a wide array of subject matter and assignments. It was truly a writing collaboration each session-- of students teaching me the content while I taught them how to articulate and organize their thinking about the subject matter. It
was then that I realized that I wanted to work with writers for the rest of my life, and that's exactly what I've been doing! At The Writer's Block we have a small group of highly dedicated and experienced English Teachers and Writing Specialists. My goal has always been to create a dynamic learning environment for students to discover their true potentials and abilities as writers and thinkers. Our teachers have worked with students at the elementary, secondary, and university levels (undergraduate, graduate, doctoral). In addition, we have a wealth of experience working with ESL students as well as preparing students for the SAT, ACT, and AP Exams. Our teachers are comfortable working with students of all ages, abilities, and writing assignments-- any form of expository writing, literary analysis, thesis-based essays, research-based reports, speeches, cover letters, resumes, college applications, manuscripts, etc. Our intent as teachers is to always move the student closer to mastering the how, when, where, and why of the writing process. Understanding how to tackle prompts with intent, organization, clarity, and a variety of strategies and tools that can be carried over and applied to any writing assignment. Our tutors have been trained to use time efficiently and to make decisions about which issues can and should be addressed within the framework of a given session (global issues-- organization, logic, structure vs. local issues--sentence and word level problems). We strive to help you discover your voice and potential as writers and thinkers!
