WE DID IT!!!! 💜🎶🎹🎻🎷💜

Thanks to your generous donations and spreading the word, we have reached our fundraising goal of $82,000. We now have full funding for our band director position next school year!

You may have also heard from your student that we had a special visit from Seahawk veteran Lofa Tatupu, Seahawks Blue Thunder drumline, Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready, and City Council members, Joy Hollingsworth and Dionne Foster, & School Board Rep Vivian Song this past Friday. This effort was spearheaded by Council President Hollingsworth, resulting in a generous donation from the Seahawks, Safeway, and Vitalogy Foundation. Not only did this help us to reach our fundraising goal for next year, but it will also help jumpstart support for the band director position the following year, too.

Thank you all for your generosity and for keeping our music program strong! 💜

Help Us Keep the Music Alive at WMS by Helping to Save Our Beloved & Award-Winning Music Program🎶

Our full-time band director position will lose funding for next year, cutting our program in half. This impact would be devastating for our school community.

If you are able, please consider donating and sharing this post. Every gift - big or small - makes a difference.💜

BETWEEN NOW AND JANUARY 31st, ALL DONATIONS WILL BE MATCHED UP TO $25K! Donate here: https://www.friendsofwashingtonmusic.org/donate

The WMS music program is the cornerstone of our school community, serving a group of students through daily band and orchestra classes and a robust instrument‑lending program that ensures every student can participate—regardless of family resources. More than half of all WMS students are enrolled in music, many picking up an instrument for the very first time.

Music at WMS creates connection. Students who might never cross paths in other classes become teammates and friends through shared rehearsals and performances. Quiet students who hesitate to speak up in class find their voices—boldly and confidently—through their instruments. For countless students, music is not just an elective; it is the highlight of their day and, for some, the reason they feel excited to come to school.

By supporting this program, you are helping preserve a space where students feel seen, capable, and part of something bigger than themselves. Your contribution directly sustains a program that changes lives every single day. 💜

Donate to Support Saidou’s Release from ICE Detention, organized by Deep Singh 12/19/2025

Hi Washington Music Fans! This is Melissa White writing in. A few years ago, I helped run the annual Citrus Sale and worked with St. Mary's Food Bank. They helped us with delivery and unloading the truck, and we donated a lot of citrus to their program.

Last night I received this link from my main contact at St. Mary's, looking for help with one of his staff members who is apparently being held by ICE. So if you're among the lucky members of our community who has a little extra to go around, consider helping this member of our community.
