Yesterday, Prof. Christina Fong and the World Affairs Council brought together distinguished members of a State Department program, the International Visitors Program, and the GEMBA students, for an informal networking lunch. Everyone discussed what international business means to them and to the world, and what the benefits and challenges might be - now and into the future.

This Winter quarter, GEMBA students are learning International Finance from Prof. Mark Westerfield.

In this course, Prof. Westerfield has helped students learn financial decision making, from both a theoretical and practical approach. Our experienced instructor has done this through topics such as criteria for making investment decisions, valuation of assets and liabilities, relationship between risk and return, and capital structure choice.

Professor Westerfield is with GEMBA for the first time this year, and we feel lucky to have him!

Another honor for the University of Washington!
In a recent report from The Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) - a transparent, self-reporting framework for higher education institutions - UW was awarded a gold rating. UW has received a gold rating three times, but this is the first year that all three campuses - Seattle, Tacoma and Bothell - were included in the report.
We are proud of UW's long history of environmental responsibility and innovative practices in this area.

In Winter Quarter, GEMBA is fortunate to have Prof. Kevin Steensma as the Global Strategy instructor.
In this course, our students start to develop a global vision and appreciation of international markets. Students will emerge from the course prepared to be global managers, comfortable navigating the similarities and differences among national markets and national business practices.
Welcome back to GEMBA, Professor Steensma!
Happy Friday from GEMBA, everyone.

For their "Welcome Back" message to students returning after winter break, UW shared a photo of one of the coziest places on campus - the fireplace in Paccar Hall! This will be a familiar sight to GEMBA students.

Welcome back and Happy Winter Quarter, everyone!
