Guitar Day's Night

Guitar Day's Night Learn to play the guitar through your favorite artists and songs. http://guitardaysnight.tumblr.com/

My philosophy for teaching the guitar is first and foremost the song. Finger technique, rhythm, and theory are three important aspects of playing the guitar, but are at the service of the song at hand. Thus I constantly strive to find songs that resonate with my students, whether it’s a student’s request or my own recommendation. Once we have a piece of music, I can break it down and help you find

the core elements that create its identity. From there I will show you how to practice the song in pieces, building up to playing the entire song. I also enjoy drawing parallels to other songs that use similar ideas, especially in different genres. I am a huge Beatles fan and have spent countless hours working on their music (hence the name of this site). I enjoy helping students learn the music of John, Paul, George and Ringo, sometimes entire albums at a time. These four guys were so revolutionary and creative, even for today, that learning even a small piece of their catalogue will make you a better guitarist and songwriter, hands down. The same holds true for many artists and bands from the 1960’s and 70’s, and I highly encourage all of my students to spend time listening to certain records from these two decades to gain an appreciation for songwriting and musical expression in a pop-rock form. That being said, I love all kinds of music from all over the world, and my goal is to teach you what you want to learn. Feel free to contact me to ask questions, and we can discuss a structured and personalized approach for becoming a better guitarist and songwriter.
