Met curator Andrew Bolton, quiet defender of fashion as art :: WRAL.com The opening seconds of the trailer for "The First Monday in May," the new documentary about the dizzyingly star-studded Met Gala, show pop star Rihanna tossing her fashionable head in slo-mo as the red-carpet cameras click furiously. Suitably, she sports a glistening tiara.

Just bought myself some supplies I had been holding out on for quite some time. A beautiful new iron (I'm naming her Elise), a rolling travel case for my machine and craft supplies, and a travel ironing board.

Just read the most lovely feature on Jenny Beavan regarding her appearance at the Oscars. When she was nominated for “The King’s Speech,” she showed up similarly casually attired. She’s explained, “I have no interest in my own clothes or in clothes in general. My love is creating character through clothes.”

And that pretty much sums up how I feel about my own appearance and why usually when I show up on set I am wearing simple black jeans and a ratty men's shirt. The less time I waste on myself, the more I can devote to the actors trusting me to help them build a character.
