Less than 15% of supplements worldwide are actually worth using - including "professional/practitioner only" brands. ๐Ÿ˜•

Yup. *heavy sigh* Unfortunately, high quality, effective supplements are the exception, not the norm. This is why so many people feel like supplements "don't work" or worse, have bad reactions to supplements (due to the reactionary raw materials nutrients are synthesized from: corn, soy, grains, nightshades).

The good news? You can easily spot quality from the junk in ONE MONTH just by looking at the label through the SQS certification course (aka Supplement Quality Specialist).

From supplement marketing to quality and effectiveness, I break down nearly three decades of expertise into plain English so you can easily discern the supplements that actually work.

Here's some quick tips when choosing:

๐Ÿ” 1. Ingredient transparency
AS IN: Are the nutrient forms listed? Can you trace herbs to their source? Etc.

๐ŸŒฑ 2. Raw material quality
AS IN: Organic? Pesticide-free? Non-GMO/GMO-free? Etc.

๐Ÿ“Š 3. Comprehensive third-party testing
AS IN: For the lot/batch currently being sold with full disclosure on test results, not just "PASSED" ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

These 3 factors are keys that help separate the good supplements being made with ethical integrity from the craptastic supplements being pumped out for profit.

Popular supplement?
Trendy supplement?
Suggested supplement?

PAUSE. ๐Ÿ›‘

Not all buzz deserves a buy.

Hereโ€™s a quick litmus test:
1. Look at the science and data (who sponsored it?)
2. Check the research and sources (who's profiting?)
3. Find out the contraindications (are there any?)

In essence, QUESTION THE SUGGESTION. ๐Ÿ’œ

Because health deserves discerning decisions based on bioindividual needs!

๐Ÿฅ™ Supplements don't "replace" food
Think of supplements as supportive backup singers, not the main act. Supplements are meant to complement what we eat, not replace it.

How to optimally build a supplement strategy:
๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Make real foods the foundation
๐Ÿ… Identify and eliminate exacerbating foods
๐ŸŒŠ Optimize hydration
๐Ÿ’Š THEN add bioindividually supportive supplements
๐Ÿ”„ Adjust based on body's responses

๐Ÿ‘‡WHAT NOT TO DO๐Ÿ‘‡

โณ Don't use the same supplements forever
The needs of the body can, do, and will change! Which means a supplement that was beneficial at one point may not be later. I can personally relate (SO MUCH!!!), but try not to get emotionally attached to supplements. If a supplement had a beneficial impact, it did what it needed to and it's time to assess what will be supportive *now.*

๐Ÿช No cookie-cutter supplement protocols
Supplements are bioindividual, which means people have unique needs and what works for some (or even most!), won't work for everyone. Work with a health professional who understands and honors the bioindividual needs of every individual they work with.

I hope this information is helpful! Follow for more real talk about supplements.

Behind closed doors, so many colleagues tell me, โ€œHonestly, Iโ€™m scared to find out how bad the supplements I've been recommending are.โ€ ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿซฃ

I get it, facing the unknown can be scary.
But the truth is, the unknown is also where opportunity lives! ๐Ÿ˜

I'm sure we've all experienced how the unknown can bite when we let fear dictate our choices and actions. It's one reason why I don't beat around the bush when it comes to the truth about supplements. I am NOT sorry to tell people the truth, that less than 15% of supplements worldwide are worth using, because--unfortunately--that is currently the truth.

Can that change? Absolutely!

However, it will only change if more people learn how to identify the quality from the crap supplements.

Itโ€™s starts with asking supplement companies the uncomfortable questions and listening/watching for how transparent they are.

Because in the supplement industry, โ€œtrust usโ€ is not a quality standard.

The bigger risk is staying stuck with junk supplements that never had a chance of helping. Knowledge saves us from continuing to make mistakes, so don't let fear keep you from the truth. ๐Ÿ’œ

Conflict of interest is, unfortunately, a HUGE problem in the supplement industry.

For example, most supplement "education" is sponsored or provided by the supplement company who makes the supplements they're "educating" people about. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

The truth is....

โŒ Supplement company "education" = sales pitches disguised as education

โ€œI eat 100% organic for my healthโ€ is a line that gets me side-eye... until I explain why.

Over 90% of serotonin is made in the small intestine. So when someone tells me their mood feels โ€œoff,โ€ I donโ€™t start by recommending supplements. Instead, I look at whatโ€™s quietly disrupting their microbiome (aka probiotics aka healthy gut bacteria).

The non-organic food supply is saturated with the chemical glyphosate, especially bioengineered [aka GMO] foods, which are made to survive any amount of glyphosate applied to them.

The reason this is important is because glyphosate [the active ingredient in Roundup] kills healthy microbiome [aka probiotics] in our intestines. Healthy microbiome is essential for healthy intestines, and healthy intestines are necessary for serotonin production.

A couple things I teach my nutrition clients:
1) Organic food reduces glyphosate exposure
2) A healthy gut is foundation for serotonin production

Does that mean organic food โ€œcuresโ€ anxiety or depression?
No.

But, if your gut is the serotonin factory, you donโ€™t want to keep throwing sand in the gears and thinking, "It's fine." ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Food or supplements โ€” which is more important and why? ๐Ÿค” My colleague and I talked about it, and you're in luck because we recorded the conversation!

(Ya know, for her podcast. I was on her podcast. ๐Ÿ˜)

In Episode 26 of Heather J. Fisher-Pageโ€™s The Integra Podcast, we had an honest conversation about:

โ€ข Why working with a practitioner can make all the difference
โ€ข Whatโ€™s really inside some supplements
โ€ข Where real food fits into a well-rounded approach

Our goal is to help bring clarity to this topic so you can make informed, empowered choices for yourself and your loved ones. ๐Ÿ’œ
