The Yamakaze Dojo currently provides instruction in Tenshin Bukō-ryū Heihō, a Japanese martial tradition centered around the use of the naginata (glaive), in particular the kagitsuki naginata (naginata with a small cross piece at the base of the blade) against both sword and spear. From an Aki Matsuri at Bellevue college a number of years ago - an example of a kagitsuki naginata about to pull backwards and down to disrupt the sword's attack. The added cross bar allows the naginata to trap, push or pull an opponent's weapon, which can increase the effectiveness of the naginata, particularly against a spear.
