And, for a very early preview of coming attractions: Tiffany Tsao, translator from Indonesian, will be our third annual literary translator in residence at the Translation Studies Hub next year! Following Anton Hur (translator from Korean, 2024) and Sawad Hussain (translator from Arabic, 2025), Tiffany Tsao will spend several days, April 13-17, 2026, packed with talks and workshops on various aspects of literary translation at Simpson Center for the Humanities at UW and at organized with or at other places in town, including with our friends and partners (NOTIS’s Northwest Literary Translators, Folio, Seattle Central College, Third Place Books, and maybe somewhere else, who knows!). With huge gratitude to Lee Scheingold, whose generous gift has made this annual program possible.

I’ve now read two of the books Tiffany Tsao translated, and also one of the novels she authored — it’s a great body of work to explore, and so much more is in the pipeline with planned publication next year and beyond. Check it out (work under contract or in progress is not yet listed on her website, and there’s a lot of it): https://tiffanytsao.com

Please join us next week by a public talk by Naomi Seidman (University of Toronto) at the University of Washington, on Freud and translation. Seidman is a very exciting speaker, and an author of an earlier book in translation studies ("Faithful Renderings," 2006) as well as translator, with Chana Kronfeld, of "First Day and Other Stories" by Dvora Baron (2001). All details and rsvp here; free and open to the public: https://jewishstudies.washington.edu/event/2-19-translating-freud-psychoanalysis-naomi-seidman/
