It’s official! Lilikoi Learning has a brand new logo taped up on the walls in the office! 🤩 You’ll see it on all the social media channels (and maaaaaaybe a website soon) too!

Thank you for helping to bring my vision to reality with this fantastic design and branding support. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to work with you on this project!

Wearing all these hats 🧢👒🎩 has certainly been a stretching experience (sometimes stressful and exhausting), AND it has been an amazing & inspiring opportunity to learn new things and grow! Plus, I get to meet and teach really cool kids! 😎

🤔 What do you do when a student needs support with organizing ideas and editing, has many brilliant ideas for writing, but has a hard time engaging in writing practice, but they’re super into BattleBots 🤖 at the moment?

Yes, you guessed it! You do a writing lesson about BattleBots! Here, I’ve structured the writing lesson using Google Slides to:

✅ allow the student to write about a high interest topic
✅ provide choice
✅ provide guides to practice the skills we’ve been working—each slide breaks down the steps in the process

With this student we’ve been practicing writing to a defined audience (this gives purpose and guidance for planning/organizing ideas & a compelling reason to revise and edit…we REALLY want our audience to GET what we’re trying to say).

One of the many benefits of one-on-one tutoring is we can take the time to do a lesson like this, personalized and customized to the student’s interests and needs. It’s a big part of my WHY!

What is my favorite tutoring activity? There are SO many! But one of my favorites is this game, 1-2 Nim, from Math for Love. Simple to play, lots of possibilities for mathematical exploration and variations!

Bringing math facts to life with gifs!

Yesterday, I had fun learning how to make gifs. These are a few gifs that I made to model addition facts. I LOVE ten-frames and dot patterns because they help kids see 👀 the relationships between numbers, a key number sense skill.
