Congratulations to GME alum Thomas Buchholz, MD, Res. '92 (Radiation Oncology)!
Scripps Cancer Center Medical Director Thomas Buchholz, MD, has been awarded the 2026 Gold Medal by the American Radium Society โ the organization's highest honor. A nationally recognized leader in oncology, he has spent his career advancing breast cancer treatment, leading groundbreaking research and mentoring the next generation of physicians.

Second-year MPO student Dawson Breyer participated in the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association Policy Forum in Washington, D.C., on April 13-14. Selected by his peers, Breyer met with policymakers and legislative representatives from Washington and North Dakota to discuss key priorities for the orthotics and prosthetics profession.

Help us celebrate the 2026 Alumni Humanitarian Award winner D. Ryan Ormond, MD โ06 (Idaho WWAMI) ๐
Dr. Ormond has advanced global neurosurgical equity through sustained, capacity-building partnerships in East Africa.
Working closely with the Muhimbili Orthopaedic Institute and Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, he has helped expand neurosurgical training, strengthen residency education and introduce practical, resource-conscious innovations that improve surgical safety and neurologic outcomes.
His collaborative approach has significantly increased the regional neurosurgical workforce and reduced mortality in underserved communities.
By investing in long-term infrastructure rather than episodic outreach, Dr. Ormond has created durable systems of care and inspired colleagues to engage in global health. His work stands as a model for sustainable, high-impact humanitarian leadership in medicine.

The Master of Prosthetics and Orthotics program (MPO) was represented at the Northwest Chapter of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists meeting in Portland in April. Second-year MPO student Noelle K**k Wah Ng received the Bernard C. Simons Scholarship during the meeting.

Congratulations to GME alumnus, Cory E. Lewis, DO, Fel '16 (Radiology), FAOCR, on being elected as the 75th President of the American Osteopathic College of Radiology (AOCR)!
Dr. Lewis is a body and breast radiologist at Midwest Radiology in Bloomington, MN, and serves as the lead interpreting physician for Fairview Lakes and Northland Hospitals, acting as an essential liaison between Midwest Radiology and the Fairview Health Services. Dr. Lewis also serves on the Medical Executive Committee for CentraCare helping shape hospital policy, credentialing, and patient care.
Dr. Lewis graduated from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2010, and his diagnostic radiology residency in 2015 at Ohio University, before joining UW Medicine for a fellowship in body imaging.
Dr. Lewis has received multiple recognitions for his achievements in the field of radiology, including the Laurence A. Mack Memorial Fellowship in Ultrasonography Award during his time as a fellow at the University of Washington and was featured in Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazineโs Top Doctors edition as a โRising Star.โ
Beginning as an AOCR Resident Member in 2011 and later becoming an Active Member in 2015, Dr. Lewisโ service includes the Finance Committee from 2013-2014, the Online CME Committee from 2018-2019, and the Leadership Identification Committee 2024-present. In addition, he has served on the AOCR Board of Directors since 2019 and the AOCR Education Foundation since 2020.
Outside of radiology, Dr. Lewis enjoys spending time with his wife, Heather, and their three children, Parker, Peyton and Pearl. He enjoys traveling, hiking, and movies.

Congratulations to Idaho WWAMI Assistant Clinical Dean Dr. Mary Barinaga on receiving the University of Washington School of Medicine Family Medicine Outstanding Clerkship Award
For decades, Dr. Barinaga has helped shape the educational experience of Idaho WWAMI medical students through mentorship, leadership and a deep commitment to community-based medical education. Her work has expanded clinical training opportunities across Idaho while helping inspire future physicians to serve rural and underserved communities.
โTeaching students keeps me inspired and hopeful for the future and prevents burnout during difficult times,โ Barinaga said.
This recognition reflects the lasting impact she has had on generations of students and the continued strength of Idaho WWAMIโs mission to train physicians who will care for communities throughout the region.

Dr. Goss has built a career defined by principled leadership and unwavering service to those most in need. At Harborview Medical Center, which provides the highest level of trauma and burn services in the region, he has strengthened systems of quality oversight and embedded equity metrics into performance measurement.
In his career at Harborview and the statewide Cardiac Outcomes Assessment Program, he has advanced data tools that drive safer, more accountable care across UW Medicine and across the state. He has guided Harborview through surging demand, behavioral health crises, housing instability, gun violence and the COVID-19 pandemic while ensuring the hospital remained accessible to every patient who depends on it.
His steady, collaborative leadership has not only safeguarded vulnerable communities but also mentored a generation of physician leaders, reinforcing Harborviewโs role as a lifeline and elevating standards of care statewide.
