As someone with a deep passion for education, my primary focus is on helping individuals interested in life sciences to learn and grow. I have experience teaching a broad range of age groups, from young children in 2nd and 3rd grade to college students studying pre-medical sciences. I've also been involved in various outreach education programs for organizations like the Pacific Science Center in Seattle, WA, and the University of Wyoming. Through these programs, I've developed a strong understanding of educational practices, teaching and learning philosophy, and course design and development.
My belief is that we all have a scientist within us, starting as curious children who explore the world around us with a sense of wonder and excitement. As we grow, we develop fundamental skills of observation, questioning, testing, and analysis that are essential to the scientific method. By leveraging these skills, we can learn and discover new things about ourselves and the world, continuously growing as scientists.
As an educator, my objectives are four-fold. Firstly, I aim to help students achieve competence in the subject matter they are studying. Secondly, I work to instill a growth mindset that empowers students to believe in their potential to learn and develop new skills. Thirdly, I encourage critical thinking and reflection, teaching students to digest and analyze information and apply it in real-world scenarios. Finally, I strive to convey the significance of science, helping students understand its purpose and importance in our lives.
By adopting these approaches to education, I believe that we can unlock the potential of every student and empower them to achieve their goals, while also nurturing a deep appreciation for science and the natural world.
