Good Morning! Yesterday while cleaning up in the outdoor classroom I took a little break and blew some bubbles. As you can imagine, I've blown alot of bubbles in my career and have noticed that it is virtually impossible to do so while angry which is awesome for littles and adults. I was interested to find out that there have been actual studies on the subject. They call it bubble therapy! Studies suggest that bubble therapy Works because 1. you're forced to use deep breathing. Blowing bubbles forces a slow, controlled exhale that activates your vagus nerve and lowers your heart rate. 2. It provides tactile focus: Popping bubbles redirects nervous energy away from anxious thoughts. 3. it provides visual Grounding: Watching bubbles float creates a gentle sensory reset similar to watching ocean waves.

Who would have thought that something so simple could be so beneficial. Have a great day!

Good Morning.. Hope you’re all having a blessed Sunday! I've been working on cleaning up our outdoor classroom area this weekend and wanted to touch base on the importance of sensory play. Did you know that sensory play can benefit Brain, Motor Skills & Language development. It has also been shown to help with emotional regulation. Simple repetitive actions like sifting sand or kneading play dough can calm anxious feelings and help kids to manage stress. Lord knows they have some BIG feelings sometimes!

When I first began this journey years ago, I had tradional sandboxes where the kids sit on the edge with their feet in the sand. Those were ok, but a pain when it can to cleaning out shoes and diapers changes could be a challenge as well. There were many times where i would have a pretty substantial amount of sand fall out into the diaper changer. Now, I have a sand table and the picture below was our new sensory invention.

We had an old Simplay water table that could no longer hold water, so I turned it into a "construction play" table. I used pea gravel, sea shells and other little random things as the sensory play base. The kids have little construction trucks to scoop up "boulders" and cars that can drive on the road as well. The little boys escpecially seem to enjoy this table.

So if you're not a fan of sand, keep in mind you can use other items such as pea gravel. The possibilities are endless!

What are your favorite sensory activities?

Good Morning & Happy Saturday! I’ve been loving the nice cool temps the last couple of mornings, it's been great for airing out the house!

We've been experiencing some extreme heat this season and it doesn't look like it's done with us yet! The heat makes it difficult for us to enjoy the outdoors so we're forced to keep inside more than I would like. Trapped pollutants have been shown to affect children's sensitive respiratory systems. So anytime we get the chance, I like to open up the windows and give the house a breath of fresh air!

I love this storm door to help with airing out the house. The screen pulls down from the top; which is great for stopping little fingers from poking holes! When in the closed position, there is no screen just a nice clear glass. It's very easy to clean! If anyone is interested we bought ours from Home Depot. The Andersen 400 Series. Approximately $300. Highly recommend.

Funny story. Once I was airing out the house when the kids were here and one little boy asked why I was opening the windows. I replied, I'm just airing the house, letting in fresh air to clean the air. He replied with a very serious expression, "Ohhhh, you're letting the farts out!" lol--little boys & farts..

Hope you all have a great day!

We've noticed an abundance of butterflies this month and learned that August is a peak time for seeing many butterflies because late-summer generations emerge and some begin their long migrations. There's also alot of blooming prairie plants such as goldenrod, asters etc. The late-summer wildflowers bloom and provide the calorie-rich nectar butterflies need. Did you know that roughly 600 species of butterflies migrate not just the well known monarch. We were suprised to learn that the painted ladies also migrate. We raised a batch of caterpillars earlier this year.

One day after swimming this little butterfly pictured landed on one of the little girls and stayed there for the entire time that she ate her post pool popsicle. Such a magical experience for a child.

**fun fact a group of butterflies is called a kaleidoscope!
