💔 It breaks my heart to write this, but after many tears, sleepless nights and approximately 47 mental breakdowns, I’ve made the heartbreaking decision to rehome my child.
Age: Approximately 2 years old.
Breed: Suspected human. Possibly mixed.
They were given to me by a friend who found a stray mum with several kids. I only went over for a look… and somehow came home with one.😩
Looking back, I clearly didn’t do enough research. I thought they would stay small, quiet and inexpensive. Unfortunately, they grew.
They no longer suit mine or my cats’ lifestyle. We’re very busy, and the child requires food, attention and supervision every single day which nobody warned me about.
Both the cats and I also appear to have developed an allergy to them. Symptoms include:
• Stress
• Exhaustion
• Disappearing money
• Ruined furniture
• Constant noise
• Mysterious sticky surfaces
• Never getting five minutes of peace
• Being asked “why?” approximately 700 times a day
They’ve also developed behavioural issues they never had before. I’ve tried everything Google, routines, rewards, gentle parenting, counting to three and turning the Wi-Fi off and back on again but nothing has worked.
They are toilet trained, extremely food motivated and know several basic commands, including “sit,” “stay,” “put your shoes on” and “we’re leaving NOW.” However, their recall is terrible, and they only respond when snacks are involved.
They have always been an indoor child. They may adjust to being an outdoor child, but they have no road sense and probably shouldn’t be allowed to free-roam.
They are good with cats, although the cats have requested that I mention the feeling is not mutual.
To make matters worse, I’m moving and have finally found the perfect rental. The landlord is happy to accept all the cats but has a strict NO CHILDREN policy.
I understand that foster carers and family services are already overflowing. I don’t want to dump them on the street, but I’m running out of options.
Please don’t tell me to keep them. My decision has been made.
Please don’t judge me or leave nasty comments. This is already incredibly difficult for me.
A rehoming fee applies to ensure they go to a good home. Full screening, references and a home check will be required. No time-wasters. Must send regular updates forever.
Sounds ridiculous when it’s a child, doesn’t it? 🙃
