Hi, my name is Ashley Guertin and I would like to introduce myself as the owner of AG Art Academy. I graduated college with a BA in Communications and a minor in Art, and have been pursuing art in several different avenues both professionally and recreationally ever since. I began my teaching journey in a hybrid school working with elementary-aged students. After a few years, I started teaching middle school art as well as offering classes to a wide age range of homeschool students in a classroom studio in downtown Eau Gallie. Last year I began teaching out of my home which has worked out great, and I will continue to do so for the time being. I offer several different group classes and private lessons as well. I am in the process of working on offering online classes so proximity is no longer a hurdle! I love teaching and I love art so it is truly a blessing to be able to help people discover more about themselves, the world around them and all living things in a creative capacity through many types of mediums and styles. My hope is that if you are seeking a fun, encouraging and dynamic environment for your student to learn more about art you will check out my website (in bio) and/or reach out with any questions. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and of course would appreciate you passing my info along to anyone else that may be interested! 🎨

WEEK 17: POP ART WITH ANDY WARHOL, MONET’S WATER LILIES, MORE JELLIES & PICTIONARY! In Art Exploration, we started a two-week mixed media piece that celebrates Warhol’s repeated patterns of “POP”ular everyday items using oil pastels and sharpies. This is a challenging but rewarding project as you have to draw the same subject multiple times but changing the colors in each section, really bold and fun though! In Minis, we learned step-by-step how to draw Monet’s Bridge Over a Pond of Water Lilies, they turned out gorgeous! In Littles, we finished up our jellyfish for our last class and in Sketchbook, we finished off the semester with some good old fashioned Pictionary! It was full of laughs and healthy competition! Tuesday is the last day of classes for the semester, so hard to believe! I am still offering some private classes and will otherwise resume classes in the Fall so keep your eyes open for the new schedule! Details at www.agartacademy.com.

WEEK 16: BLACKOUT POETRY, DOLPHINS, SHARKS & RAYS OH MY! & FINISHING UNDER THE SEA WITH GUY HARVEY! This week in Art Exploration, we worked on a super fun and dynamic type of art that taps into an additional part of our creative brains to get a bit poetic! I gave students an old book page and as they look through they circle words they like forming a light-hearted poem and then they draw and color a design to describe the poem all around the words filling in the page. It is so relaxing and the results are impressive! In Minis and Littles, we finished up our Under the Sea pieces and they are beautiful! In Sketchbook, I did a directed drawing lesson focusing on sharks, dolphins and rays going through each step using shapes to create these fascinating underwater creatures! We are almost to summer…just a couple classes left and then we will break for summer until the Fall! Please be sure to reach out and check out my website for class details. Private lessons will continue through the summer! Details at www.agartacademy.com.

WEEK 15: UNDER THE SEA WITH GUY HARVEY, EYE ON YOU, PERSPECTIVE & FINISHED YARN ART, YAY! In Art Exploration we finished our fiber arts project with acrylics and yarn covered canvases, they are so fun and vibrant! We had a few extra minutes so I taught a mini finger knitting lesson which is always fun! In Minis and Littles, we started a two-week project learning about the amazing and Florida favorite, Guy Harvey! His incredible art celebrating underwater fish and sea life is second to none, so we are making like Guy and started with a beautiful background. We added our own fun twist by doing a wax resist on our paper and then adding some salt to our finished watercolors to create an underwater feel. I think Mr. Harvey would be impressed with these kiddos so far! In Sketchbook, we chose and studied different animal eyes to draw. I had the students focus (no pun intended!) On value and shading to make them look realistic being sure to draw what they actually see and not what they think it would look like—always a challenge but the results are astounding! In one of my privates, we continued a perspective piece that is coming along beautifully! If you have a student who would like to take some art with me, call or email to register today! WEEK 14: PART 2 YARN ART, MULTIMEDIA JELLYFISH & DOODLES! This week we worked on getting close to finishing our yarn art pieces and they are looking fantastic! This coming week should wrap them up! In Minis and Littles, we did part 2 of our jellyfish and worked on part 1 with some of the students to play catch up. We practiced drawing and blending with q-tips the jellyfish, sea w**d as well as the other parts of the composition in oil pastels before they went to canvas. They turned out so very cool! In Sketchbook we had some fun with doodles…I asked them how they drew a simple object, they drew it, then I showed them my version. We learned some easy drawing skills to improve some basic everyday things. It was definitely light hearted and fun!

WEEK 13: YARN ART CANVAS, MULTIMEDIA JELLYFISH & ABOUT ME COMPOSITION! In Art Exploration, we started week one of a whimsical and fun fiber arts and acrylics multi-media piece. We started with a rough draft of a very simple design and then painted it on our canvases. They are looking fabulous! Next week we will carefully glue yarn to parts of our piece to add texture and a fun boho vintage vibe. In Minis and Littles, we started week one of our jellyfish. We practiced drawing a jellyfish and then followed step by step instruction the colors to paint on their canvas/paper to create a beautiful gradient background. Next week we will add our pastel jellys and seaw**d! In Sketchbook we divided our page up and drew different pictures that all represent us as individuals and the things that make us unique—I loved seeing what these guys came up with, so thoughtful and well done! If you have a student who would like to take some art with me, call or email to register today! Details at www.agartacademy.com.
