☀️🌤⛅️Cold front continues east⛅️🌤☀️
The frontal boundary responsible for the isolated showers and thunderstorms last night is currently pushing through Minnesota. Those storms stayed near Lake Mille Lacs then a few popped up over Todd and Morrison counties around 11pm last night. 99% of our area remained dry, unfortunately. Any precip today will develop in extreme eastern and southeastern Minnesota...Isolated strong thunderstorms are possible in those areas.

For us, no additional development is expected behind the surface boundary...so mostly sunny skies will continue. Dew points will drop off behind this front as dryer air moves in behind it. This could bring some light surface smoke from the continued wildfires out west but it'll be brief with no impacts to AQI. Light vertically integrated smoke will likely continue(as we have had all summer) but it'll be less dense than we have had from previous cold fronts.

Tuesday will be in the mid/upper 80s and mostly sunny...becoming cloudy towards the evening.

Showers and thunderstorm chances return Tuesday night into the overnight hours. Southern Minnesota will have the best potential.

Some pop up showers and thunderstorms will be possible over the next few hours over areas along and north of the frontal boundary that's over southern Minnesota. There is some potential for these to become strong/severe with hail and gusty winds. The best chance for some severe thunderstorms will be in northwest Minnesota.

Most of us will remain dry tonight.

Pink outlined area is where isolated development is likely.

Thanks to ongoing cloud cover and weak dynamics in today's severe weather outlook, the overall threat is low for this evening. With the lack of sufficient surface instability from daytime heating and a cap (warm air aloft) in place. This will keep most development isolated and intensity under severe limits.

Extreme western Minnesota could have some isolated severe storms this evening. Gusty winds and hail will be the primary threats.

Went out hoping to see the northern lights as the clouds cleared out a bit....Barely saw them briefly at the Mississippi River landing then went out on Mayhew Lake Rd, backed into a field access road that I typically go to. A observant Benton County Sheriff's Office K9 Deputy came across my vehicle....obviously looking a tad suspicious...so he made a traffic stop on me to see what I was up to. It turns out he follows this page and we ended up talking for a hour. I would imagine most people would feel uncomfortable in this situation...even when you are doing nothing but Benton County has some awesome law enforcement officers. I always enjoy meeting new, local cops. Also, it's kind of rad that some of their deputies follow my page. 😎 It was the highlight of my night! To any other cops that follow my page....Thank you for what you do.

For Sunday, there is a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms. The main threat will be large hail and damaging wind gusts....there is also a tornado threat that the SPC has highlighted along and north of the Minnesota River and along I-94.

Isolated early morning thunderstorms will be possible as the storms that are currently in central South Dakota should make it into western and central Minnesota. Most of this should dissipate as it crosses into Minnesota. Models have been bouncing around if these will maintain their strength or dissipate prior to making it to our area. Expect isolated, hit or miss showers/thunderstorms early Sunday morning.

Residual cloud cover will likely linger area wide through most of the morning and maybe through the afternoon. If we do get clearing, the chances for redevelopment on Sunday evening will increase as daytime heating instability builds. Atmospheric conditions do not look overly impressive, keeping evening development unorganized/isolated.

Any development that occurs could produce hail, gusty winds and a few tornadoes near the triple point where low level shear looks to be the greatest....Either way, this looks to be an isolated, low end severe threat.

Timing will be late afternoon into the evening.

Over Otter Tail county, there are currently numerous strong thunderstorms capable of producing gusty winds up to 40mph, hail up to 0.50" in diameter and very heavy rainfall. Ambient Weather stations just south of Detroit Lakes has observed rainfall totals exceeding 4" from tonight's thunderstorm activity. Urban and small stream flash flooding is possible. Storm movement is to the east southeast at 30mph.

This is valid through 530am.

Showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop across central Minnesota this morning ahead of a surface boundary. Isolated flash flooding will be possible across eastern North Dakota into central/northern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin through mid morning Saturday. . Areas of training could produce hourly rainfall rates over 1"/hr with isolated spots seeing upwards of 3" total this morning. These storms will likely continue to be widely scattered/disorganized as CAPE values across central Minnesota are rather weak but due to a strong low level jet and high precipitable water in the atmosphere....isolated flash flooding will be possible.

Currently, no severe weather is occurring and conditions do not look overly supportive of severe thunderstorms at this time. Stronger thunderstorms could occasionally occur in southwestern Minnesota through later this morning.
