Its purpose was to promote a sense of community through the use of photos and stories. Members of a college campus often go their entire academic career without knowing the people around them. Humans of Skidmore wants to bridge that gap by providing glimpses th

"There's no joy in living your whole life on the ground. Yes, the climb in unpleasant, but the view up here is so much better than the view from the ground. Since I discovered this spot my freshmen year, I climb this tree all the time. I'll be happy if one day I saw someone sitting here. This seat needs to be utilized. Honestly, nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into tress."

"If there's anything someone I don’t know should know about me is that I'm always full of laughter. I come from a rough neighborhood where you always have to have a straight face. You can't show too much of yourself because it is not the safest place to live in. When I walk around Skidmore people may see me with a serious face and mostly likely with my headphones on. But in all honesty I'm always listening to Kendrick Lamar and if you come and meet me I am very friendly and outgoing."

What has been one of the funniest moments in your life?

"……..it was one time when I was at the zoo with my family, I was like 10 years old and we were looking at these tapirs. They're like a pig looking animal. We were next to those things and I wasn't a big kid at all. I didn’t hit the glow up yet. So, we were just standing around and I really had to sneeze, like really bad! Something was just giving me allergies and I was trying to hold it in. They were a lot of people looking at these ugly pigs and I'm just walking around trying to get away from people because I had to sneeze. Eventually I just let it out and sneezed & I kid you not, the loudest fart you will ever hear from a 10 year old boy came out of me. It sounded like one of those pigs did it. PFFFFFFFFFFFFFTPT!!!I It was so loud and there were so many people there. As soon as it happened I just hid behind my uncle so people would think it was him. My uncle was like, what the f--- was that? I was so embarrassed. Everyone was laughing at me and I just dropped to the floor! I didn't know what to do."

"I love singing; I love how much goes into creating a beautiful sound from a group of individuals. For a long time, I only ever wanted to be in an ensemble where I could fit in with other voices and not have to worry about the pressure of performing solo. That changed when I moved to Massachusetts during the summer before my junior year of high school. I decided to try out for the lead in the musical and I got the role! Suddenly I had to go from being terrified to sing in front of anyone to being completely comfortable on stage in front of hundreds. It was simultaneously the most challenging and rewarding experience of my life. It helped my self-confidence and really reinforced my love for singing. Now at Skidmore I’m in the Sonneteers and it’s really cool to rehearse with them and hear all of our unique styles blend together to create something really rad!"

"I just started getting into social work and by far it has been my favorite class this semester. I came into Skidmore thinking about pursuing art education. I experimented with like 5,000 other areas and I arrived to the decision of pursuing social work. I'm a sophomore and I'm about to declare my major. I decided social work because it's applicable to everything and I can see myself doing it. I like working with people and I love listening to them. It's fun for me. I know I can't promise to fix everyone's problems, but I can promise them a person that will be there for them so that they won't have to deal with their problems by themselves."

“One of the things I’m most grateful for is having a community here at Skidmore. Everyone is just so eager to learn as I am. They deal with my craziness and they’re just excited about things. I think in the real world there isn’t a lot of excitement. Here at Skidmore it’s important to be excited about the world. At the end of the day, you deserve to live a life you are excited about.”
