Throwback to my first year of teaching back in 2015! I started off the year as the only teacher in my classroom, but as enrollment increased more students were added and eventually a co-teacher as well. Our kindergarten class ended up with 28 students. Talk about a unique first year of teaching!

There’s a reason we chose to raise our girls in Sarasota. 🧔

My entire family is here, and that support means everything. I love watching our daughters play at the same parks and beaches I grew up visiting, and the small-town feel makes motherhood less isolating.

We can bike almost anywhere as a family, especially on Legacy Trail, and so much of life here happens outside. Our church has an incredible kids program (our oldest asks to go more than just on Sundays!), and our girls grow up hearing different languages and experiencing the diversity that makes Sarasota special.

Most importantly, our school district has held an ā€œAā€ rating for 22 years. Our daughters are surrounded by caring teachers and a community that believes in families and education.

I’m grateful to raise our family here, and it’s one of the reasons I’m running for school board. Every child in Sarasota deserves the same opportunity to thrive right here at home. 🧔

Attended our first Successful Women Aligning Together event today and met so many incredible businesswomen from the Sarasota area. We felt so honored to be surrounded by a group of women collaborating together and empowering one another.

Meet Nelly Moreno, our incredible campaign manager and MVP! Nelly and I met 11 years ago as first-year teachers and have been inseparable ever since. We've explored Europe, Central America, and Hawaii together, navigated the ups and downs of motherhood side by side, and now we're joining forces as an unbeatable team to win this election.

Nelly's generosity, resourcefulness, eagerness to learn, and organizational skills make her an invaluable partner. I'm so grateful to have her by my side and am excited for all we will accomplish! šŸŽšŸ«¶ā¤ļø

Yesterday marked a major step for our campaign! We submitted our paperwork and opened our bank account with Gulfside Bank, Sarasota’s only local bank.

Learning about election campaigns has been a wild ride, and I’ve had a lot of questions about the finances. Why does it take so much money to run for school board?! Let me break it down:
• Qualification fee: $2,099.56
• Digital ads & marketing: up to $80,000
• Staffing: $30,000 for 6 months
• Events: $10,000
• Office expenses: $5,000

Our campaign is fueled by 100% community support (no daddy Warbucks here), so if you’re able to donate, we’d be forever grateful! You can donate on our website at votescarletthess.com don
