This class is for new and current body piercers. This class meets the requirements of Florida Statute 64E-19 for the initial and annual body piercing training requirements. This will be an intensive hands on class that will introduce the Florida state laws to new and current body piercers. We will go over proper sterile field set-up, cross contamination prevention procedures, bio-medical waste handling and storage, how to properly put on sterile gloves, proper hand washing techniques, infection control and a number of other issues affecting the body piercing industry as it pertains to Florida State law. Students will be given a certificate of completion at the end of the class. For more information contact [email protected]

Piercing 101

New Material added for 2014!!! Piercing 101 is a general overview of everything a new, novice or experienced body piercer should know before working on the general public. This class covers a broad range of topics ranging from interpreting what you have learned during an apprenticeship to understanding measurements, jewelry sizing and proper piercing placement. We will review everything that you should have but may not have learned during a proper apprenticeship. We will go over the proper piercing names, placement, jewelry sizes, procedures and proper tools for the job. We will learn what cross contamination is and how it can be prevented as well as what bio-medical waste is and how we should treat it. All students will receive a caliper and sizing chart as well as a copy of the power point presentation and a Piercing 101 Certificate of Completion. For your convenience, at tattoo conventions, Piercing 101 will be held directly after the Florida Body Piercing Certification Class, at the end of the Piercing 101 class we will answer any questions that students might have about anything taught during the Piercing certification class as well as anything taught during the Piercing 101 class. You can take this class at various tattoo conventions around Florida or get a min. of 6 people together and we will come to your location. History of Bio-Medical Waste in the State of Florida will introduce the student to the history of Bio-Medical Waste regulations across the country and in Florida. It will introduce the student to the Bio-Medical Waste Tracking Act, the reason why it was implemented and its effects on future bio-medical waste regulations.

I have been getting a lot of messages this weekend asking if I know anything about the reopening of tattoo and body piercing shops in Florida. Officially the Florida department of Health never had any jurisdiction or direction from the governor to close or reopen tattoo and body piercing shops. Since the FDOH never had jurisdiction to close tattoo shops in the first place, please don't wait for instruction from them about when you can open. The governor is allowing personal services to be open on Monday. Tattoo shops were most likely not mentioned in the exact wording because of 2 reasons. 1) the personal services mentioned are regulated by the Florida department of business and professional regulation (dpbr). DBPR Specifically told the establishments that they have jurisdiction over to close, DOH never did that. Therefore if something was never closed in the first place than it will not get directions from DOH on when to reopen.

2) the governors office is just assuming that any personal service will be classified by this order.

I would recommend to everyone that you take whatever steps necessary to maintain your livelihood and feed your family. Unless you hear otherwise from an actual government agency, assume that you are personal services and can reopen on Monday.

Of course if you local county has other restrictions in place, then I would refer to the local county commissors office for further directions.
