Families Moving Forward (FMF) Specialist Training 12/19/2025

Calling mental health professionals in this group!

If you're a therapist, counselor, social worker, or psychologist who works with families impacted by FASD or prenatal alcohol exposure (or wants to build this specialty), I wanted to share a training opportunity.

The reality: Most finished grad school with little to no training about FASD-informed care. We try our best, but the usual treatments often don't have the effects we expect because they don't account for the brain-based differences caused by prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE).

Training on the FMF Foundations intervention fills this gap.
This is one of only four interventions recommended by the CDC for FASD. It was developed at Seattle Children's specifically for families raising children with PAE/FASD.

What clinicians gain:
✓ Deep understanding of FASD's impact on the brain
✓ Advanced reframing techniques for "challenging" behaviors
✓ Complete intervention protocol with all materials
✓ 30 CE hours (Florida-approved)
✓ Small cohort support (10-12 participants max)
✓ Ongoing consultation after training
Why this matters: Research shows families who receive FMF experience decreased child disruptive behaviors, improved parent competence, and more family needs met!.

Next cohort: March 10, 13, 20, 27, 31 and April 10, 2026 (virtual)
Application deadline: February 9, 2026
Investment: $2,500 (many agencies cover training costs)
Eligibility: Master's/doctoral level, licensed or working toward licensure, previous MI and CBT training, access to eligible family clients.

More info and application: https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/ev/reg/q5wc5q7/lp/c0ec1507-1d30-45f8-b010-13f653038e3f

To parents / caregivers impacted by PAE or FASD: If you're working with a provider you trust, consider sharing this with them. Every specialist we train means more families get access to effective support.

🎉✨ HISTORIC NEWS FOR THE FASD COMMUNITY❣️✨🎉
We are thrilled to share that the FASD Respect Act language has officially passed the U.S. Senate as part of the SUPPORT Reauthorization Act of 2025 (HR.2483) and now heads to the President’s desk to be signed into law! ✍️
This is a milestone moment for the 1 in 20 Americans living with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders ( ). For too long, families and self-advocates have gone without recognition or resources at the federal level. Today, Congress has taken a historic step toward changing that reality.
💡 What this legislation does:
🎯Authorizes a federal response to FASD.
🎯Allows the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services to fund education, prevention, and awareness programs nationwide.
🎯Provides resources to States and Tribes to build FASD-informed services into their systems of care.
🎯Brings hope, recognition, and validation to families and self-advocates who have fought for years to be heard.
This victory is thanks to the bipartisan leadership of Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), plus Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) Rep. Betty McCollum (D-MN), and to the tireless voices of advocates, families, and self-advocates across the country.
As Susan Shepard Carlson, former First Lady of Minnesota and past FASD United Board Chair, reminds us: “The passage of FASD authorization is truly historic and a huge victory for the FASD field. This would not have happened without the bipartisan leadership in the House and Senate, and the united effort of so many advocates around the country.”
👏 THANK YOU to everyone who raised your voice, called your legislators, shared your story, and stood with the FASD community. This is YOUR win. (FASD - Fetal Alcohol Spectrums Disorder)
