Check your sources and be critical of what you read or see as "news." The misinformation/disinformation machine is already ramped up and will go full speed to November. There are certain words being thrown around as a distraction and a scare tactic. (I'm not going to say them because it will add to the algorithm that highlights that BS, but you can probably guess what they are.) When navigating socials especially, look for red flags:

What's the reporter's name (or the FB, IG, etc.)? Do a Google search (not the AI summary) to find their credentials and their platform.

What's the name of the website? Can you trace it back to an actual site? How long has it existed? In what other ways has it been mentioned online, such as Reddit or blogs?

If it's YouTube, do the same. How long has the channel existed? How many followers does it have? Have they interviewed any reputable people? These can be clues.

AI images have been fairly easy to spot (because they're hideous), but who knows how it will morph between now and November. Trolls and bots don't post disclaimers that they use AI. Some news websites do add a disclaimer, but personally, the fact that they use it at all is a red flag to me.

Search quotes in actual search engines and follow the trail. Who actually said it and in what context? When did they say it? Look for a date. It's possible they never said it at all. You know people love to misattribute quotes and put words in people's mouths.

Before you believe it to be true and share something, DO YOUR DUE DILIGENCE and make sure it's legit. Taking these extra steps starves the disinformation machine.
