The Comeback Kids do it AGAIN, only to be denied on Wed night! The bid for the Elite Eight fell short, as #13 7A-ranked Riverview lost 3-2 to #5 Newsome in an epic match. Newsome (20-2-1) had outscored its opponents 108-7 this year! Coming off an 8-0 win vs Venice, the 2025 State Final Four Wolves were NOT expecting more than a scrimmage, as Riverview had never made it this far.
The Rams were focused on shutting down the attack and so close to going into the half scoreless. The hosts took advantage of a free kick miscue with 38 seconds left, but the Lady Rams had been down this road before. Then 15 min into the 2nd half, Newsome’s leading scorer hit a left-footed bender which would leave any keeper hopeless. The comeback stage was set, down 0-2 once again. The young Rams though, with 7 underclassmen starters, turned it up a notch, and got a CK goal from sophomore Lyla Johnson to bring the Ram Nation crowd back into it. After a Newsome player got a 2nd yellow ejection, the teams were playing an uncommon 10v10 game which opened it up a bit and the relentless attack from Riverview was on. It would be an unbelievable effort from senior Sofie Sepulveda, who was taken off by ambulance last week and had 11 stitches in her forehead, who hit a free kick from 30 yards out, into the upper right corner for the game-tying score. This in and of itself was an epic comeback, as Sepulveda made the crowd wince 5-6 times with headers last night, just 6 days after leaving blood, sweat and tears on the Sumner pitch. Ultimately, Newsome’s one-man band got her hat trick with a brilliant back post header on a corner, all but sealing the Rams’ fate with 3 min to play. With contributions from the entire bench, playing and supporting, the team was proud of its efforts. Coach Sean has been talking about “Building Something Special,” and the Lady Rams have truly built something to be proud about over the last 5 years. For tonight, POG honors go out to the entire team. Way to go Lady Rams! 🐏⚽️♥️

What an unbelievable way to secure our 50th win, advancing to the program’s 1st Sweet 16 appearance in our 40-year history! Down 0–2 with 25 min left, double overtime, we ended it with a penalty kick shootout Victory!
First and foremost, I’d like to thank the players, past and present, whose passion, hard work, and relentless pursuit of greatness made every single win possible. Second, this post would not be possible without the unwavering dedication from day one with Assistant Coach, Jamie Brester, and Goalkeeper Coach Sean Springman. Third, the last 2 1/2 years has seen our tactical play and competitive edge exponentially raised by our Director of Training/Game Manager, Reggie Thomas. Finally, without the support of the families, the school administration, and the boosters, the overall experience wouldn’t have been the same. Coach Sean has consistently preached we are “building something special.” It’s still a work in progress, but the foundation is BUILT! It takes a village, and I’d like everyone to share in this ACCOMPLISHMENT. We are Riverview. We are RamFam! 🐏⚽️♥️

Sofie Sepulveda left it ALL on the field Thursday night-blood, sweat and tears. In a thrilling comeback, Sepulveda led the Lady Rams from down 0-2 with only 20+ minutes left in the game, to tie it 2-2 with 12 min to play. Unfortunately, her tenacity and goal-scoring ability were not available in the scoreless double overtime, nor the PK shootout. The senior took a headbutt to her head, resulting in a bloody 15-min delay with only 3 min left in regulation. While she was taken to the emergency room in an ambulance to get stitches and checked out, her teammates kept saying, “let’s win this for Sofie.”
Sumner got on the scoreboard just 4 min into the match. However, even after another goal put the guests down 0-2, the raucous Ram crowd kept the spirits high and the hopes alive. Junior goalkeeper Bronwyn Leggett had her best game of the year, making acrobatic stops and commanding the box in the air. In front of her, senior Kate St.Onge and 3 sophomores (Lyla Johnson, Avery Hunt and Emily Whitehurst), stymied a potent Sumner attack, which had outscored their opponents 85-18 this year.
The Lady Rams cut into the lead after Emily Simone was fouled in the box. Sepulveda calmly placed the ball in the bottom corner. With 12 minutes to play, Sophia Oszlanczi was fouled from behind which also resulted in more Sepulveda brilliance from the spot-cool as the other side of the pillow! After the Sepulveda injury, speedy sophomore Harper Kelly, beat the keeper with a toe poke and, and with it almost going over the endline, somehow got enough power, but falling away at the sharpest of angles, the ball mercilessly pinged off the post. This would have been just as Kelly shuffled past the Stingray defense all night long.
After 2 overtimes, the game was decided by PKs. While Sofie’s skillset was not an option, Bronwyn Leggett helped win for her friend by stopping 2/4 shots, took one herself with Oszlanczi, Simone and Mia Alexander, sending the Lady Rams into a frenzy. Sofie is already talking about the next game at Newsome, the Sweet 16, the 1st appearance in the program’s 40-year history. Today, we celebrate and talk about Sofie’s courage and heroics! Way to go Sofie!!!
