We’ve all heard that Boxing requires that you defend and attack by using angles of entry and exit in and out of the pocket. However, not many fighters or coaches talk about using BEATS. Check out this video and watch my movement while listening to the music and you will see I am moving to the BEAT of the music. That helps me create a rhythm of movement and then when I attack I break up that rhythm which allows me to be more effective and less predictable. Good day yesterday working with this guy! Super humbled by the opportunity to be the Boxing Coordinator on the commercial he was shooting and getting a chance to set up choreography for him! Also great being able to utilize my Boxing knowledge and Spanish to interpret the directors notes in between takes into Boxing terminology that Canelo could understand! Truly grateful to be able to work with such a high caliber athlete and create movement through my verbal cues ! It was also very helpful that Canelo was so incredibly focused that he was easily able to make every single adjustment necessary to make the shoot a success! my ! This is a class as close to reality as it gets! We don't listen to music that is sped up to sound like the chipmunks, we don't have an eight count to match our movements to the music, we don't punch and kick the air, and we don't wrap our hands because it looks cool. We wrap because we hit real targets...HARD!!! The music is only there to inspire and even though it is played loud, it is barely ever heard over our own pounding hearts or our labored breath. We Hit actual targets because in that there is TRUTH... truth about distance, leverage, accuracy and power. The movements are as unpredictable as they are purposeful. This class is about Focus, knowledge, and cultivating the highest level of fitness. It is also about courage... Courage to continue moving even though you feel like you can not, courage to break free from preconceived self limitations, courage to submerge yourself fully in the NOW and courage to push yourself beyond the "KNOWN".
