🐾 WELCOME TO SANTA MARIA ISD, DR. MARCO ANTONIO LARA, JR.! 🐾

Santa Maria ISD is proud to welcome Dr. Marco Antonio Lara, Jr. as our Interim Superintendent of Schools!

Dr. Lara brings with him more than 30 years of experience in public education, with a distinguished career dedicated to serving students, educators, school districts, and communities across South Texas.

His extensive leadership experience includes serving as Superintendent of Schools for South Texas Independent School District, Superintendent and Chief Executive Officer of San Perlita ISD, and Deputy Director for Administrative Leadership, School, and Community Support at Region One Education Service Center.

Throughout his career, Dr. Lara has been a strong advocate for:
📚 Student academic growth and development
🎓 Instructional leadership
🤝 Community and university partnerships
👥 Leadership development and talent development
🏫 Strategic planning and facility planning
💡 Innovation and educational technology
❤️ Supporting educators, students, and communities

Dr. Lara holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas-Pan American, a Master of Science in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University-Kingsville, and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Southwest Texas State University.

As we begin this new chapter, we look forward to the experience, leadership, and vision Dr. Lara brings to our district.
