The History of the Scholarship
After "Cocoa's" death, his sisters and the kids from all the different Santa Fe Schools, SFHS, Capital, St. Catherine, football and track teams, both boys and girls decided that they wanted to do something to keep his memory alive. As we move into the new school year, we’d like to take this moment to congratulate Kyle Peinado who is our 2021 Charles “Cocoa” Maxwell Jr. Memorial Scholarship recipient for Boy’s Track. Kyle graduated from St. Michael’s High School and is attending the Colorado School of Mines this Fall. We wish him the best of luck!

Passed away on August 6, 1989
This is and will always be a sad day. My parents lost their son, my sisters and I lost our brother, and many people lost a great friend.
It was the death of an amazing person that birthed a wonderful thing. The Charles “Cocoa” Maxwell Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund. Through it we have been able to turn this tragedy into a triumph.
But we never forget what brought us here. If you or someone you know has thought of committing su***de know there are people who love you and are there for you.
