Extending my heartfelt condolences to the family of Coach Routh. He was an incredible person, coach and administrator, who impacted countless students - including me. His ability to balance being quite strict while also having a great sense of humor and being able to genuinely connect with kids, set the bar very high for everyone I encountered after first meeting him in elementary school. Plus, not everyone can talk a 3rd grader into standing in a chair in the cafeteria on their birthday to try to sing the lyrics to “Jeremiah Was A Bullfrog” in front of their peers.

Excellent work, Colton!

Santa Fe valedictorian recognized with National Merit Scholarship Colton Payne earlier this month received National Merit Scholarship recognition for his strong academic performance throughout high school, including a perfect ACT score.

The TEA ratings released today are from 2023. They were delayed due to over 120 school districts in Texas filing lawsuits over changes to the TEA accountability system after the school year in question ended. (they moved the goal post after the ball was already in the air) A Travis County judge had previously blocked the release, but the TEA has now proceeded with publishing the ratings.

Santa Fe ISD publicly discussed these accountability system updates and concerns almost two years ago, and also made efforts to inform the community.

For the sake of comparison and gaining a better understanding of how all schools across the state were impacted by these “after the fact” accountability changes, this is how our neighboring districts were rated for the same school year:

Dickinson - 80
Alvin - 82
Friendswood - 91
Texas city - 69
Galveston - 69
Hitchcock - 73
Clear creek - 83

These ratings align with the statewide trend, where only 73% of campuses received passing grades in 2023, a decline from 87% in 2022. The number of F-rated schools also increased by 233%.
