Like everyone else apparently on my FB feed, the Charlotte video is on my mind. Specifically, how are we going to enter this new era of monitoring for abuse in and OUT of the competitive sphere. If you aren't aware, new rules are coming for USEF members:

The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) has policies in place to protect athletes from abuse, bullying, and harassment. The USEF takes allegations of abuse seriously and has no tolerance for it at licensed competitions. In 2024, the USEF proposed rule changes to strengthen its ability to punish abuse, which go into effect on December 1, 2024:
Reporting abuse
Members must report abuse to a licensed official at a competition or to the USEF if not at a competition.
Action at competitions
Competition management and officials can take swift action when abuse occurs, such as eliminating, disqualifying, or issuing warnings.
Jurisdiction
The USEF's jurisdiction is expanded to include horse abuse that occurs outside of competition, such as at home facilities.

I think we as a community had better get a really clear definition of abuse. The biggest thing I have taken from the many conversations that are going on is how many folks think its not that severe, while others are horrified at the severity.

What is the line? I am very concerned as a caring trainer and apparently, as of December 1st, a mandatory reporter, as are many of you.
