Feeling stressed, heavy, depressed, or overwhelmed? Maybe you just need to throw some a$$ 🍑with us this Friday night, Sept. 25th at Yoga Yoga ॐ at 7 pm. Use the link in my bio to sign up now, before you miss out.
Turns out “just dance it out” has some actual science behind it. 👀💃
When we move together, especially in rhythm, our brains and bodies do some pretty fascinating things.
Research has found that synchronized dancing can increase pain tolerance and feelings of social closeness, likely involving our natural endorphin system. In other words: your brain apparently likes a group groove. 😂
A 2024 meta-analysis of 218 randomized trials involving more than 14,000 people also found dance was associated with substantial reductions in depression symptoms. That doesn’t mean dance replaces therapy or medication, but it does add to the growing evidence that movement belongs in the mental health conversation.
And it gets even cooler: a 2026 study found that when tango dancers moved together, their brain activity became more synchronized, too. 🧠✨
Then there’s conscious/free-form dance. A UCLA study of 1,003 dancers found 98% reported improved mood, with many participants also reporting benefits related to stress, anxiety, depression and trauma.
So maybe your body isn’t being dramatic when it says, “I NEED TO DANCE.”
Maybe it knows something your overthinking brain hasn’t caught up with yet. 😉
