On Saturday night, we gather for a concert with no script, no structure—only listening, risk, and creation in the moment. Led by Simon Drew and Lia Booth, and joined by guest artists Sharon Lebell, Eric Stoner and Cole Sainburg, this fully improvised performance becomes a living conversation in sound.

This is music as it unfolds—honest, surprising, and alive. An invitation to experience inner freedom not as an idea, but as something felt.

Part of The Sanctuary Symposium: Becoming Free, with guest philosopher Sharon Lebell.

Oh the joy! I truly get to work with the coolest people. Yesterday, between lessons, two of my students bumped into each other outside the studio and spontaneously be began making music for some regulars of Chapter One. Music on the streets is always a great idea! ✨

Friday, April 24th — Experimental Jazz at The Sanctuary Studio

Enter a world of strange and beautiful sound. Three distinct musical voices converge for an evening that blurs the boundaries between experimental, jazz, and noise—inviting you into something raw, immersive, and unexpected.

Brandon Woo Snyder joins forces with Jeonghyeon Joo and Xuanqi Liu in a striking trio of haegeum and self-programmed electronic instruments—an alchemical meeting of tradition and technology.

Composer-performer Ian Power brings music that is insistent, suspenseful, and deeply alive—performed worldwide by leading ensembles and rooted in a compelling personal voice.

Closing the evening, a modern jazz quartet—Daniel Richardson, Nolan Miranda, Spencer Pepke, and Brian Shank—offers original music and fresh interpretations shaped by deep respect for the tradition.

A night for the curious listener.
