Lee County High School AVID students were honored and celebrated at the end of year AVID/TOP Banquet Tuesday night. Scholarships and awards were given to well-deserved students. I was happy to be a part of it.
AVID is a college and career readiness program that closes the opportunity gap by preparing all students for success in school, college and/or career.

We had an amazing AVID showcase SanLee Middle School last Wednesday hosting educators from across NC and SC. They were excited to see the AVID system at work in an AVID National Demonstration school, one of only 6 in the state. High student engagement and collaboration happening in every classroom produces successful student outcomes, closing the opportunity gap.

Lee Early College’s AVID Advisory classes created a History Museum. The students researched items and when and where they were invented making a project board in groups using a rubric and then presenting their project in different classrooms to adults venturing through their museum. Excellent job!!!

Yesterday, our 8th graders had the opportunity to tour Lee County High School as they prepare for their exciting transition into high school this fall.
Even with illness impacting 3 of our 8 teachers, our students represented our school beautifully. They demonstrated outstanding behavior, genuine enthusiasm, and maturity throughout the visit.
We are incredibly proud of the way they carried themselves and the positive impression they made. High school is right around the corner, and we have no doubt they will continue to shine when they walk those halls again in August.
Way to go, 8th grade!!

AVID at LCHS teaches students not only academic skills needed to be successful, but soft skills to learn how to communicate and be professional to ensure future success no matter the path they choose. Thank you, Mrs. Washington for this cross-curricular etiquette lesson enabling our AVID students to experience firsthand how to have a professional lunch. To learn more about AVID and how to apply for the class, please email [email protected] and I will send you the link.
