Wow! Our students borrowed 17,985 books from our library this year! We were one of the top schools in the District for the amount of books borrowed. Our students are developing a love of learning every time they find a book and take it home.

Our students set a goal to borrow at least 15,000 books- so they beat their goal. As a reward for achieving their goal, the library was turned into a campground. Students had fun finding hidden items throughout the library and enjoyed the camping themed activities- including a tent to read in!

Did you know you can see all of the books in our library online? Our library catalog is on our website at www.altaview.canyonsdistrict.org.

We are so grateful to Scott Jameson for 8 years of heartfelt service to Alta View Elementary. Every day he dances on the Morning Announcements and reminds the kids to "Work Hard and Have Fun." He helps students and teachers reach their highest potential in the classroom, and he coordinates whole-school events that make every person feel like they belong.

This year's staff danced to "When Can I See You Again" to show our appreciation. Pictures by Jessica Davies and Video by Wesley Morgan.

Last Tuesday, we celebrated the last Chess Masters session at school and recognized the winners of our 2nd Chess Masters Tournament.

🏆 Beginner Level: Sofia
🏆 Intermediate Level: TJ
🏆 Advanced Level: Diego

The winners received a certificate and a chessboard as a reward for their effort and achievement. We hope all of our chess players had a great time this year, had the opportunity to show their abilities, and learned new strategies to improve their chess skills.

Srta. Iglesias' classes held a special Mother's Day activity for students to show off their blossoming Spanish skills to their moms or other significant adults in their lives. They helped their guests order treats in Spanish and read to them as well.

It's incredible to see how much our Dual Immersion students learn over the course of a year!

📚 Our library isn’t just for checking out books—it’s where creativity blooms! Students are diving into all kinds of literature and even writing their own poems.

Our young poets wrote a variety of poetry, from haikus to blackout poems. It is incredible to see their talent! Magic happens in our library! ✨🖋️

Our First Graders had a fabulous time at the aquarium on their field trip! Along with touring the aquarium, they learned about penguins and even got to help build penguin nests. We think our penguins are the cutest ones in the whole aquarium!

Did you know?:

The cool black and white coloring on penguins is a type of camouflage called "countershading."

Many male penguins gift rocks to female penguins to woo them. Female penguins use these rocks to build their nests.

The penguin's body is streamlined to help them swim fast.

Our 4th and 5th grade students serve as our school’s Student Council Leadership Team. At the beginning of the school year, students campaign and run for office before being voted in by their peers.

Student Council members are positive role models throughout the school. Each week, they work with our kindergarten teachers to help students clean and organize their desks. They also support our PTA during special events and activities, including Veterans Day celebrations and helping display student artwork in the library during our art showcase.

In addition, Student Council organizes and runs our Harry Potter Penny Wars fundraiser, helping promote school spirit and teamwork. The group meets once a month to learn and grow as leaders while discussing ways they can make a positive impact in our school community.

Thanks goes out to all of our Student Council members for their hard work, and to their president and vice president, Liam and Emery.

A huge shout out to Mrs. Otteson and Mrs. Mann for all they do to develop the leaders of tomorrow on our Student Council!

🍴✨ Our amazing 5th graders just completed a deliciously fun project! Each student created or made their own recipe and shared it with the class. Not only did they get to explore their creativity in the kitchen, but they also practiced important math skills like measuring and fractions along the way.

All of their recipes have now been compiled into a special 5th Grade recipe book — a keepsake they’ll cherish forever! 📚❤️ It’s incredible to see learning and creativity come together in such a tasty way.
