I’ve been thinking about my former students lots lately. Those who have graduated, those about to graduate, and those that went a different direction. I’m sure I’m not alone as a teacher, but I often find myself wondering how you are doing. If I taught you, I would love an update on how you are doing! Love all my students/kids and always will

Ok Facebook friends in the business field, or anyone who likes to volunteer for helping high school students learn. The school I’m at does a 9th grade shark tank type project for students to work on presenting and using rhetoric to do so. But also developing their problem solving and critical thinking skills. We are in need of a few more “sharks” to evaluate, and ask questions about their products. It would be the week of May 20 and there are various times available. So I am currently teaching Elie Wiesel’s Night to my freshman so talking a lot about grief. In one class I mentioned how your body sometimes remembers and experiences that grief and anxiety before your mind knows why. I then said I’ve been much more emotional lately and then realized next week is my deceased husband’s birthday.

Today a sweet student brought me a treat because she knew tomorrow (my deceased husband’s birthday) might be hard and wanted to make it better. I was emotional again!

13 years ago this week shattered our family, and since then Veterans Day has a new meaning. Veterans Day was the last morning Kris woke up. So now it is the day before a tough memory.

This year has been very reflective and has been a positive beginning to this emotionally tough anniversary.

Last night we went to Ballet West’s Firebird. And while I loved all the ballet beautifully performed Balanchine’s Stars and Strips brought a tear to my eye remembering those who served and also Kris’s love for this country through my love of dance, and sharing it with Mike.(whose excited and impressed reaction did not disappoint!

Then here at Alta, where I first met Kris, the student body celebrated the veterans of our community and I was able to share Kris’s photo and they read his name. I was even able to see some familiar faces from our time as students at Alta.

Tomorrow being Veterans Day and Sunday being 13 years since Kris died, I’m glad to be reminiscing about our early days meeting and falling in love. And grateful to be here teaching and seeing all our family has accomplished since he passed.

Thanks to all those who served our country. Love and miss you Kris.

I survived my first week teaching at Alta! Had to pull out my old yearbooks and snap a picture from my senior year- 30 years ago!

It’s been an emotional day. Lots of tears and hugs from my amazing Granger Lancers, I’ll miss you! I can’t wait to see the amazing things you will do! I’m so grateful to Bren for helping me move my classroom to a new district! Monday I’m once again officially an Alta Hawk! 🦅🖤❤️🩶🤍
