Are you a math genius? 🤓

Our San Pedro Clubsite is looking for volunteer tutors that will help teach our Club members advanced math!

Our teens are working through Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and other higher division math, and they need people who know the material and can sit with a student until it makes sense! 💙

Every volunteer at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the LA Harbor brings something unique to our community.

A few years ago, Dr. Frank Kantrowitz came to the Wilmington Teen Center with a PhD in applied physics and a desire to help our teens with advanced math. Since then, our high school students have received steady support in one of their biggest areas of need.

This summer, Lois Chapman visited Harbor Hills from London and chose to volunteer with our members. She says it was the best decision she has made and plans to return every summer. This photo of her playing a game with our members shows just a bit of the activities, programs, and relationships she helped support.

For the past few years, Heather Campbell has come to the San Pedro Teen Center to help our teens with college applications, scholarships, and essays. In this photo, she is running a timed SAT practice for our high school students, helping them take another step toward their goals.

Summer is over 😭 but our dual enrollment classes have begun! 😎🎓

The new school year is officially underway, and our Club members are already taking their next first steps toward college while they’re still in high school! 👩‍🏫

At BGCLAH, we take further the education of our youth seriously. Through dual enrollment at BGCLAH, students earn real college credits early on and graduate a step ahead. Some of our members even finished high school with an AA degree already earned!

September 1st marked the start of National Workforce Development Month. That might sound like something that happens in a boring conference room. But ours happens in a welding booth at the Port of Los Angeles.

At Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor, we help our Club members start learning workforce skills early. Thanks to Career Bound and our partnerships with groups like the LA Harbor Workforce Center, young people from San Pedro, Wilmington, Harbor City, Harbor Gateway, and Lomita get to learn job skills, earn certifications, and gain their first work experience.

Last year, more than 600 Club members and clients joined us to complete 160 work-based learning internships and log over 19,000 hours of work experience. And just this month, a new group of interns is starting their journey.

The future workforce of the Harbor is taking shape in our Clubhouses.

Last week, our Harbor Gateway parents spent an evening building financial confidence. Richard from Chase led a free workshop, Chase Money Skills: Introduction to Bank Operations, that walked families through the fundamentals of banking, credit, and money management. 💲

🥨 One night, one big purpose. Bids for Kids is back, Oktoberfest style! 🥨

Join us for steins, pretzels, a silent auction, and a live band, we’ll even keep the dance floor open late! 🎉

The Celebration: Doors open at 5:00 PM. Steins are raised, pretzels are passed, and the silent auction opens as the room fills with friends old and new. Bavarian music, a beer garden-inspired experience, and the full Oktoberfest spirit! 🇩🇪

The Purpose: As dinner is served, we will be inducting two Hall of Fame honorees. Willie Naulls, honored posthumously, who went from the San Pedro Boys Club to the heights of professional basketball and never forgot where he started and Gary Herrera, former President of ILWU Local 13, turned his Club kid beginnings into a lifetime of labor and community leadership. Then paddles rise! The live auction and Back-a-Kid appeal then turn one night of celebration into a year of meals, mentors, and open doors for Harbor area youth. 🏆

The Party: Our live band takes the stage, the dance floor opens, and the night rolls into the afterparty. Stay late. You'll be in good company! 💃

What to Wear: Festive cocktail attire or traditional Oktoberfest. Dirndls, lederhosen, and Bavarian-inspired fashion encouraged, but not required.

A huge thank you TOYOTA for showing up for our Harbor Gateway Club members! 🙌💙

Volunteers packed and donated more than 100 backpacks, all to ensure our kids have the supplies they need for their first day of school! 🚗🎒

We're grateful to have partners like Toyota that invest in our youth and in the Harbor Gateway community.

To every student that stepped into a new school or grade, every parent that’s juggling drop-offs and a work life balance, and for every family that's finding their footing this week, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor are here for you.

Behind every blue door is a safe place for students to attend when after the school bell rings: there’s homework help, caring mentors, a full afternoon of programs, and our Boys & Girls Club community that believes in your kids as much as you do.
