Dr. Micah Lande is one of the Faculty Honors Advisors featured this month by Barrett, The Honors College at ASU.

This week’s Faculty Feature is Dr. Micah Lande, the FHA for Engineering on the Polytechnic Campus. Dr. Lande’s area of study is Engineering Education Research. His work examines how one applies a problem-solving process to arrive at a solution and how everyone has a different perspective that adds to a holistic design approach.

Dr. Lande’s favorite courses to teach are introductory courses that are part of the engineering program's design project spine. He gives students open-ended design challenges and is interested to see what new engineering students imagine and build as solutions. For him, the most important takeaway from any of his classes is to put people at the center of the problem space and work with empathy. By doing this, one can imagine a more desirable, feasible, and viable solution to a problem.
