Craftydogs - Crafts for dogs and the people who love them. First and for most this company is for my dog GiGi, so she has a better life as a dog.

I plan to have a line of toys for dogs that tap into THEIR senses and NOT ours (for a human it would be akin to what we see in art). There needs to be a greater understanding and appreciation for dogs for who they really are and not what humans want to make them out to be. For humans I will have art/crafts that hint at the finer features of their canine companions.

Not the greatest photo, but it does you an idea of just how bad the dandruff is, she's a black dog after all!! This shows what she looks like after we brush out the first layer of dandruff from her skin. We are going to have to up our weekly washes to biweekly. She seems to do good for about 3 or 4 days before dandruff comes back. It's now down her back and on the back of her hind legs as well as the sides of the insides of her back paws. Poor girl.
At least she doesn't seem to suffer from it, no itching or discomfort, although I'm not sure how that wouldn't just make you go crazy having it on your skin, dogs feel things much differently than we do. After all, they don't have sweet pores all over their body as we do.
I will try and update more often now that I'm feeling better.

Happy Easter from GiGi!!

Photos from Craftydogs's post 03/28/2021

So we finally got the special shampoo for GiGi when we took to get her stiches out last week. Before we could use the shampoo, we had to shave her all the way down, as that gives us easy access to the skin and a fast dry and was time. I wasn't able to get a photo or even be in the room when Wade shaved her, or when he had to then brush out as much dandruff as he possibly could. He said she was a white dog when he got done because that's how much build up had happened. He is allergic too, but not as bad as me, plus he wore a N95 mask. After that came her first bath with her medicated shampoo which has to be left on for ten minutes, then wash that out. Second, we put in a good amount of mineral oil until it penitrates her fur( its like trying to put water on a well waxed car, rolls right off) so then she had to sit in her kennel after that for 2 hour to let it soak in. Third it was back to the bathroom, for what I'm sure she saw as some cruel joke, she had to be shampooed again with a different medicated/degreeser/ moisturizer. Then finally she was able to lay down on the newly changed bad and pass out. Poor pup!!

As you can see she's looking much better, no flaking yet. She gets extra oils in her diet and now that we have everything she will be bathed twice a week with the above protocol until we see an improvement in her skin. Then, it goes down to once a week. She still has a dermatology appointment on the 8th, unless we get it under control before then.

She does love her new hair cut, because she's about 2 pounds lighter, to her that means you can fly in the air longer when your jumping...lol!!

So G was tired after getting her stitches out last week and I had the lights on, she doesn't like light when she's sleeping so her solution is to hide her face! LoL!!

Sebaceous adenitis 03/17/2021

Got the test results back, looks like she tested positive for: Sebaceous adenitis
Just Iike I thought she would. Vet treated me a little differently and said over the phone she would support any treatment that I have found to be effective and get any prescription.

Silly girl licked her stitches off when I wasn't looking. Which is all day and night! So now she has the cinema of shame on! POOR pup! I think I will but a surgery shirt, which I found on Amazon for dogs and cats, full body suit or t-shirt covering their whole tummy and bum, with nessesary hope made for doing her business. Then least she wouldn't be stuck in the cone of shame and trust me she's got that look down pat!! I'll try and get a photo of it! Lol!

Sebaceous adenitis Sebaceous adenitis in an uncommon skin disease found in some breeds of dog, and more rarely in cats, rabbits and horses.[1] characterised by an inflammatory response against the dog's sebaceous glands (glands found in the hair follicles in the skin dermis), which can lead to the destruction of the g...

My poor baby dog Gigi, they wound up having to take 3 biopsy, the two you can see in the pictures, then one more on her bum. These photos were taken on Friday, the right after I got her back home. She was a little out of it but by that night she was back to her now normal self. Just glad we can give her a bath now! Haven't been able to because we needed to wait least 2 weeks so the spots were the worst possible so they could get a good biopsy and thus a better chance of a result from the test. But she was so uncomfortable and now on top of that she's got these wounds. But she's an amazing trooper and seems to not be too effected by it. Tomorrow we can and will give her a bath as the wounds have healed up good enough now. Not sure how much fur she will have after the bath as just petting her now you get fur on your hand :( Will update when anything changes or we get the results of the biopsy, which should be sometime next week. The dangers now started down her her snout to her nose...let's hope we get a diagnosis so we can start treatment asap. For now we will do the treatment we can from home, 2 kinds of baths weekly, with an added spray of an oil mixture, an extra oils in her diet. Just need to get the medication for it to be enough that she will actually start to grow back her hair/fur/curls if we are lucky and persistent.

Poor GiGi has a vary bad case of dandruff on half her body with crusts of it sticking to her fur in small spots and her fur coming out at those spots. On top of all that where ever she has this happening her normal curly coat is straight!! Her skin under those spots feels totally different too. After seeing 3 vets and going through a round of antibiotics, steroids, weekly medicated baths, and a ton of different types of oils/omega's; only to find out no one knew what was going on with her!! So, we finally decided to go to a top dermatologist in the area, but the next available appointment is in April!! This was last month. In the mean time we have been working with our vet to see if we could improve her condition any and so far none of it is really doing any good to stop the onslaught of the problem except at the end of the first round of treatment. We didn't want to continue the medication because of her sensitive stomach and possibly making it stronger by not killing all of it or perhaps, it not being the right treatment, our vet agreed with us.

After finally feeling better, I started to do some serious research on what it could possibly be, I've already went through all the common problems that include dandruff only to come up empty handed, last time I looked, but two things stood out to me and one her fur went from curly to straight, and two she's not itchy. These two things were key, as it turns out, because I'm pretty sure I figured it out. She just needs to get a skin biopsy to confirm it and start treatment. She has sebaceous adenitis, an inflammatory skin disease of unknown etiology. :( Poor girl!

The first photo is from Jan 23, 2021 the next two are from today!! You can really now tell where her fur is lost and straight and where it has not effected the fur, yet. She's not in pain or much discomfort from what I've read on it, though there's not much on it except in the Veterinarian literature. Will update when we finally get a diagnosis. Going to call on Monday to get a regular vet appointment and hopefully get the biopsy done.

I was just looking over at my artwork today and realized I haven't put up any, so here are some photos (will get better one's up soon)! Thought it was more important to have the photos up then not, even if they aren't the best quality.

1. Is a wolf mask I made as a junior in hight school, 1995 (Wow, that was a long time ago!). It's made from a chicken wire armature, taped together with masking tape, h ard cors stock for the ears. Then with stripes of newspaper dipped in paper mache, to cover the base form. Then after I got the basic shape made I added paper mache pulp to mold and shape the face nose and lips. I also have taxidermy glass eye's that can go in the eye sockets, but generally keep them out due to it being a little spooky with them in.
Funny Side Note - when my mom went to developthe photosshe took of it, back in the days you had to wait to get your film developed and they look at all your photos, she got called on from an employee asking why she had photos if a dead dogs head...lol! (It had the eye's in ofcourse.) My mom had fun explaining that one ;)
Note: I also made a giant dragon face out of the same materials, in my second year of collage art class. It's not painted, so you can see how it looks on the outside and inside, if your interested in seeing it comment below.

2. Made around 2010, when I returned to college art class. This is a scotty dog (Scottish Highland Terrier) made from regular sculpting clay, I worked hard to get the correct look of the breed like it was about to go into the show ring. I fired it but never got around to glazing it because I wasn't sure if it would look better or not.

3. Made in 2011. This is like a great dane looking dog, or mixed dog of some sort, I was just playing around and liked the look, plus I wanted to try glazing it to see how it would turn out. Made out of the same clay as #2, but glazed with some older glazes they had in class.

Mind blown!! Bunny is still a young dog too, wonder what mysteries she might open up to us about cross communication with other animals and how they see words, context, and sentences building...as well as a lot of surprises along the way. Best link to see the full extent of what this dogs abilities are. Remember she's still a young dog too!

Amazing dog can communicate through a buttons on the ground that say different words when pressed. It's shocking how you can see the thought process the dog is going through. It reminds me of the look G gives me sometimes, makes me want to try this too, but I'm afraid she'd wear out the "play" button!!
