The summer of 2026 is coming to an end. You had a great time staying up late, going to summer camp, and going on family vacations! Now, it’s time to get back to your routine for the new school year.
While summer vacations are valuable, students often experience a phenomenon called the “Summer Slide.” This means that students often forget some of what they learned the previous school year during the summer months spent out of school. On average, students experience a 70-78% decline in math proficiency and a 40% decline in overall academic proficiency. We discussed it in our earlier blog article, “Get Back to School with Afficient Academy...”.
How to get back into a routine:
1. Check your school website and students’ portal for any updates.
2. Check emails to find out all the assignments and their submission due dates. You must check it well in advance to complete all assignments on time.
3. If you are an Afficient Academy remote student, then ensure that your slot for supervised sessions is intact. If you have lost it, please contact your Account Manager and ask for help.
4. If you are a student at an Afficient Academy Learning Center, visit your learning center’s website to find out the updated schedule. Many learning centers change their schedules at the beginning and end of the summer session. If you have difficulty finding the information you need, please contact the learning center manager or staff.
5. If you paused your Afficient learning account for more than 4 weeks, you are strongly advised to take a diagnostic test of your recently passed grade. This is important because the test can identify some of your forgotten skills or weaker skills. It is in your best interest to first address these forgotten skills and ensure mastery of them before advancing. At times, it’s wise to take a few steps backward and prepare before you jump. This will save you a lot of time and prepare you to face the challenges of your new grade.
6. Ensure you visit the learning center once or twice per week, as advised by your learning center manager.
7. If you are an online student of Afficient Academy, ensure to attend the supervised session. There are Q&A sessions too when you need help from an instructor.
These seven keys will help you get back into your routine and prepare for the challenges of your new grade.
