LAMT 2026 was the very first Los Angeles Math Tournament, and Think Academy students already made a huge impact 🏆
From strong team performances to outstanding individual rankings, our students showed what long-term mathematical thinking and consistent training can achieve.
Highlights from LAMT 2026:
🏅 Top placements in Guts Round & Shopping Round
🥈 Students ranked highly across external teams
🥇 Eric Zhou achieved:
• #1 in Geometry
• #3 in Combinatorics
• #4 in Algebra
What made LAMT especially interesting was its unique “Shopping Round” format, where teams had to strategically manage budgets while solving increasingly difficult problems. It tested not only math ability, but also teamwork and decision-making under pressure.
This tournament may be new, but many already see it as a future major U.S. math competition for advanced students.

Math Kangaroo is changing fast. It’s no longer just about calculation speed anymore 👀
The 2026 results show a clear shift:
Geometry, spatial reasoning, and visual problem-solving are becoming more important across lower grades.
For many students, the challenge is no longer:
“Can they calculate fast enough?”
It’s:
“Can they think through unfamiliar problems?”
That’s why more families are now focusing on:
• visual reasoning
• geometry logic
• pattern recognition
• explaining solutions, not memorizing them
If your child is preparing for future Math Kangaroo competitions, this guide breaks down:
✔ what top scorers are doing differently
✔ what skills matter most now
✔ how parents can help students prepare effectively

Big congratulations to Ricky for turning a 22-page humanities research paper into a compelling Emory Pre-Law application story 🎓
A strong college profile is not only built through STEM competitions.
For students interested in history, writing, debate, politics, law, or social sciences, long-term research and intellectual exploration can become a major advantage in U.S. college admissions.
In this webinar, families will learn:
• How humanities research strengthens a student profile
• Why writing and long-term projects matter
• What competitive pre-law applications actually look like
• How students can build academic direction from middle school to high school
Perfect for G5–G12 families exploring humanities-focused pathways 📚

Math competitions are getting more creative every year 👀
We visited UCLA for the first-ever LAMT math tournament and got to see students tackle one of the most unique competition formats we’ve seen so far.
Instead of solving the same set of problems, teams had to “buy” problems strategically using a limited budget:
• Harder problems = higher points
• Smarter strategy = bigger advantage
• Team collaboration mattered just as much as math skills
It was exciting to watch students think under pressure, communicate, and adapt in real time. Huge congratulations to all the students who participated and represented their teams so well! 🔥
Would your child enjoy this kind of competition-style challenge?

MK scores are out… but here’s the bigger question:
Is your child actually ready for AMC 8? 🤔
A high Math Kangaroo level doesn’t automatically mean the next competition step is the right fit. AMC 8 requires a very different skill set:
• deeper logical reasoning
• stronger problem-solving stamina
• faster thinking under pressure
• more advanced math foundations
The best next step is not about chasing harder contests. It’s about understanding your child’s readiness, confidence, and long-term learning path.
In this guide, we break down:
✔ The real difference between MK and AMC 8
✔ What skills transfer — and what changes
✔ Signs your child may be ready for AMC 8
✔ A parent checklist before moving up competitions

Big news for competition math students and parents in California! 🚀
UCLA is launching LAMT 2026, a brand-new math tournament designed for middle and high school students who want to challenge themselves beyond the classroom.
And we’re excited that Think Academy will be participating with:
🏆 3 teams
📚 15 students
🔥 Ready to take on the challenge
Math competitions are not just about getting the right answer.
They build problem-solving skills, confidence, logical thinking, and the ability to tackle unfamiliar challenges step by step.
Excited to see how this first year unfolds at UCLA! Who else is planning to participate? 👀

Only 224 students made it to the 2026 MATHCOUNTS Nationals. 🤯
That’s just 0.35% of all participants.
Behind every qualifier wasn’t just talent.
It was years of consistent training, problem-solving practice, speed, accuracy, and competition experience.
A lot of parents see the results.
Very few see the process behind them.
At Think Academy, we’ve worked with many award-winning math students, including Top 10 placements, and one thing is always true: long-term growth matters more than shortcuts.
We broke down:
• How competitive MATHCOUNTS Nationals really is
• What separates top students from the rest
• The skills students need to build early
• What parents should focus on long-term

More students entered Math Kangaroo this year… but winning got even harder. 📈🏆
In 2026, Math Kangaroo USA reached 60,504 participants, yet the number of National Top 20 awardees dropped sharply from 10,338 to 7,658.
That means:
• More competition
• Fewer tied top scores
• Higher difficulty for national-level recognition
The numbers suggest that strong scores became much harder to achieve across many states this year.
Are you surprised by the 2026 results? 👀
Do you think the paper was actually harder this year?
