Economics must begin within living economy and not with market and mathematics removed from daily living of people in society respecting commons, social contracts in service to people and planet thriving and not growing beyond the limits of the sustainability boundaries. Kate Raworth is a British economist and academic known for creating the "Doughnut Economics" model, which balances human needs with planetary boundaries. The Mondragon Corporation is the world’s largest worker-employee owned cooperative network. The corporation and federation of worker cooperatives is based in the Basque region of Spain, but has businesses all over the world. An increasing number of workers and governments are looking at this business model to tackle wealth and income inequality. Within the US, Initiatives like Co-op Cincy (Cincinnati) and the USW United Steel Workers) have driven this model, aiming to create sustainable, equitable jobs, protecting against layoffs by sharing work and utilizing solidarity funds.
