SJ Cactus and Succulents Society Since 1960, the Cactus & Succulent Society of San Jose has brought together people who share a passion for cacti and succulents. King Road, San Jose, 95116.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that meets monthly for shows, giveaways, educational programs, field trips and more. We hold monthly meetings at Emma Prusch Park, 647 So. The mini show this month is all about our speaker, Joseph Hidalgo.

Joseph has a distinctive style with his own pots and small cactus or succulents. As a thank you for his presentation this month and all he has done for the club over the years, let's honor him with our Mini Show entries:

Cactus: Frailea, Gymnocalycium, Astrophytum, Pelargonium or other small cactus
Succulent: Adromischus, Echeveria, Hakea or other small succulent
Something Special: New plants purchased at the show and sale, cacti or succulents, in a plastic pot or your choice.
Beginner's Luck: Favorite plant from a Sale, including this last one.

Our September meeting will be on September 6th, at 12:30 at Emma Prusch Park in San Jose. Everyone is welcome to attend, especially those who heard of us at the Cactus and Succulent Fair.

This month's topic: Joseph Hidago's Pottery, Staging and Plants

At this month’s meeting, Joseph Hidalgo will present a program on pottery, staging, and plants.

Joseph began creating pottery for his cacti and succulents in 2011 after struggling to find pots that suited his plants. Before making his own pieces, he scoured pottery markets throughout San Francisco and the East Bay, but found that many of the pots were too symmetrical and the glazes too shiny.

He wanted a more organic look, pottery that would complement, rather than overpower, the xeric plants he intended to enter in shows.

🌵 The San Jose Cactus & Succulent Society’s Summer 2026 Cactus & Succulent Fair is happening THIS WEEKEND! 🌵

What started as an empty room has turned into an incredible Cactus & Succulent Fair, packed with cactus, succulents, rare plants, and beautiful pottery!

We had a great first day on Friday, and our vendors will be restocking their tables Saturday morning, so there will be plenty more to discover!

Less than a week away! This Friday night, August 21st, the Cactus and Succulent Fair opens and runs through Sunday. A greater variety of cactus and succulents to purchase than at nurseries and big-box stores. Better prices also!
