Differences with ASD population and visual efficiency

Another interesting fact is that first degree family members of individuals with autism perform more slowly and less accurately with visual saccades and pursuits

Preterm infants pursuits

Infants at 2 and 4 months corrected age where found to have delayed smooth pursuit eye movements compared to babies born full term. (Strand-Brodd et al., 2011).

A review of 53 studies and 3998 infants revealed that “individuals born preterm had greater likelihood of attention difficulties as early as during the first 2 years of life.”

Visual attention and the ability to fixate and follow moving objects is so connected to the babies ability to develop sustained attention as they age.

It is not surprising that there are several findings that children with ADHD are more likely to have visual efficiency deficits.

Children with ADHD differ so much with their visual skills that pursuit eye movements have been suggested to be used as a useful tool for ADHD diagnosis.(Rommelse, Van Der Stigchel, and Sergeant, 2008)

We will talk more about this in the Visual Efficiency and Reflexes
Class (it is only 39$ until Aug 31st !)

You will learn how to adapt activities to target reflexes- ATNR and STNR to get an advantage in working on visual efficiency skills and more on effective visual efficiency strategies for kids with ADHD.
