Though he earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Southern California and worked as a petrochemical engineer, fate had other plans — a talent scout discovered him while bodybuilding in the early 1980s, leading to his first screen appearance in Diana Ross’s 1982 music video “Muscles.”

Birmingham soon dedicated himself fully to acting, studying under renowned coaches Larry Moss and Charles Conrad. He made his TV debut in 1986 with the series Riptide and later appeared in Body & Soul (2002) and Steven Spielberg’s epic miniseries Into the West (2005). A large FERRUGINOUS HAWK NEST built with bulky Kyle Boers, 1912. I like the picture for its magnificent elevated view and for the weirdly unusual nest. This scenic shot was obtained after lugging a bulky camera up an arduous climb. W.R. Felton, L.A. Huffman’s son-in-law, captured at least six exposures of the nest near Highwood (Montana), including a shot with three fuzzy hatchlings.

A color shot of the ferruginous hawk is in the first comment on my page. The bird is the largest North American hawk, with a wingspan of 4-5 feet. It is the only American hawk with feathers covering its legs all the way to the toes. The bird’s diet consists largely of small mammals, including groundhogs and squirrels.
