UCSD Anesthesiology Alumni

For those in SF for the ASA annual meeting, there will be a "mixer" for current UCSD faculty and for alumni on Saturday!

For my anesthesiologist faculty, staff, fellow, and resident friends attending the upcoming ASA meeting in San Francisco, there will be a very nice social "mixer" organized by one of our former UCSD residents, Dr. Ben Rayikanti ( Ben Rmd). It will be held at the Golden Gate Yacht Club on Friday, October 13, 6-9 PM. This will be a great opportunity to meet up with old friends and to "network" with new ones! The beautiful Kona Kai San Diego will be host to the University of California, San Diego Department of Anesthesiology Update 2017 from January 4-7, 2017.

Hi UCSD Anesthesiology Alumni! It's been a while since I've posted, so over the coming days I'll be sharing some news about your Department. The magnificent Jacobs Medical Center (attached to Thornton Hospital) is fully up and running, and we now have a total of 22 ORs up in La Jolla, including the four ORs for the Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center. The second floor has been designed such that the CV Center ORs, Thornton ORs, and the JMC ORs are all connected on one floor, creating one large OR suite. If you're an attending and want to stay in shape running all over the place during the day, this is the place to do it! I logged over 14,000 steps the other day! On the immediate horizon is the opening of our new ambulatory surgery pavilion, with 8 new ORs and a procedural suite for our Pain docs. Lots happening here at UCSD! Over the next few years we're planning a new hospital, outpatient facility, and laboratories on the Hillcrest campus as well...

UC San Diego plans to build new hospital in Hillcrest UC San Diego is working on a revamp of its Hillcrest medical campus, which is home to one of the region's oldest and most used hospitals.

Reminder to all UCSD Anesthesiology faculty, trainees, and alumni, we're having a little get-together at the Hilton Chicago tomorrow night at 6PM! It will be in PDR #2! Let me know if you plan to come....

Hi UCSD Anesthesiology Alumni! We're having an alumni reception at the upcoming ASA meeting in Chicago on Monday Evening, October 24, 2016. It will be from 6PM til 8PM at the Hilton Chicago. All UCSD Faculty, Residents, Fellows, CRNAs, and Alumni are invited. Please RSVP to my assistant, Lisa Codrington, at [email protected], or private message me if you'd like to go. UCSD Alumni will remember well-the best way to get money out of this Department is to eat it-there's no admission fee!

REGISTRATION FOR THE UCSD UPDATE 2017 IS OPEN! This will be a very nice CME activity of Anesthesiologists, Nurse Anesthetists, Anesthesia Assistants, and other health care providers interested in learning more about taking care of patients undergoing procedures. The lecturers and workshop leaders include some of the top players in the field including Drs. Benumof, Drummond, Kaplan, and Lumb. Ultrasound workshops, airway workshops, and interesting panel discussions all included in the registration fee. There is a substantial discount for UCSD Alumni!

Here's a nice pic of Dr. Tony Yaksh receiving his Lifetime Achievement Award from the North American Neuromodulation Society.

Of course many alumni remember Dr. Tony Yaksh. He's still a foundation of UCSD Anesthesiology research, with one success after another. In December 2015 HE RECEIVED THE LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FROM THE NORTH AMERICAN NEUROMODULATION SOCIETY. This is a great honor for Tony, who has now written more than 780 scientific papers; cited more than 45,000 times in the medical literature. He has served as mentor for over 100 post-doctoral researchers. Also, yes, he is still approachable, friendly, fun Tony. CONGRATULATIONS DR. TONY YAKSH!!

The UCSD Update is going very well! Alumnus Dr. Ed Mariano is giving a great talk this morning about setting up a regional anesthesia service.
