This week we partnered with Simply the Basics to host a free Hygiene Market for our families!
Nearly 80 families participated and benefited from quality products such as shampoo, feminine hygiene, laundry detergent and children’s toothpaste. We are grateful that Simply the Basics thoughtfully prioritized the entire family in their inventory, so that parents would not have to choose between providing for their children or providing for themselves.

The San Francisco Environment Department visited to teach our students about recycling and composting! They taught how to determine whether an item is trash, recycling, or compost, and even brought a hands-on example of how to make compost— worms included! We are so grateful to SF Environment for taking the time to share their mission of climate action, sustainability, and moving toward zero waste with our students.

Earlier this week, a maintenance issue caused significant flooding in two of our classrooms (see last two photos).
⛑️ Our staff responded rapidly to repair the damage and relocate affected classrooms, with safety and the impact on our families as top priorities. In under a week, our Teaching, Support, and Facilities staff relocated and established two alternative classroom spaces. Shown in the first two photos!
🚸 We deeply appreciate our families’ patience during this time and are incredibly proud of our staff for their resilience and dedication!

Last week on Earth Day, students made tributes to Mother Earth. Natural materials and an appreciation of nature are key components of the Reggio Emilia inspired learning opportunities we strive to offer children year-round at the Day Home.

Recently our toddler classrooms hosted Curriculum Night for families! We provided snacks and refreshments while families participated in various educational activities and projects with their children. Events like this help us build our Day Home community and help families feel more engaged and involved in their child’s education!
Each classroom created artwork inspired by prolific artists such as Frida Kahlo, Vincent Van Gogh and Yayoi Kusama.
🎨 This project gave children the opportunity to strengthen their social emotional and teamwork skills through exploring and collaborating on their open-ended interpretation of each artist.

Week of the Young Child concludes with Family Friday!
🔐 Our students participated in a Lock Ceremony, where they each decorated a lock to represent their loved ones and hung them on the play yard fence. This tradition is in the spirit of the Pont des Arts “”love lock bridge”” in Paris!
❤️ Giving children the opportunity to share about their loved ones helps them build self esteem and emotional intelligence, as well as fosters a sense of identity and belonging.

It’s day four of The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Week of the Young Child: Arts and Science Thursday!
In order to celebrate the importance of STEAM learning, the Bay Area Discovery Museum visited our classrooms and set up engaging labs for our students to explore! Labs included identifying and sorting bugs, learning about local animal diets and habitats, nature sensory exploration, and more. These sorts of exploratory STEAM activities support building understanding and vocabulary, critical thinking, problem solving, communication, and reflection. Thank you so much to Children of Shelters for providing this opportunity for our students!
