Welcome to the Gary Payton II Foundation's virtual 'Know Your Rights' workshop, held in partnership with the Disability Rights Education & Defense Fund (DREDF). We are thrilled to have you join us for this important and free virtual event.

This workshop is designed to empower parents and caregivers of students with dyslexia and other learning disabilities. Our goal is to equip you with the tools and resources necessary to confidently advocate for your students within the school system. By the end of the workshop, you will feel empowered to be the voice for your student, ensuring they receive the resources and access they need to succeed in the classroom and beyond.

Just as our freedom from slavery is truly celebrated via Juneteenth our ability to go from 95%illiteracy post slavery to 40% in a 30 year timeframe by us is the copilot to true freedom.

We must not forget the power of unity that we have for ourselves .

We must awaken our children and anyone involved in educating them, that Black Literacy Mattered then and it still matters today!

It is unacceptable that every state in the nation has one thing in common culturally -the striking statistics of non literate black students!

We are and we must be unapologetic in our efforts, word,and expectations of anyone armed with educating black students that abysmal literacy scores are unacceptable.

To continue to talk about the literacy /achievement gap is over!

Eradication of subpar non fruitful literacy initiatives for black students has been served notice!

We shall overcome and our students will rise out of the ashes of low expectations and complacency in literacy and beyond.

It’s time to redo what we did before and to raise the bar so it’s never lowered again!
