Stitch It! 🪡 Campers in this themed session learned the basics of sewing. They began by making pincushions before designing and stitching their own plushies! Next, campers focused on embroidery, learning the many types of stitches and embroidering designs on their camp shirts. After visiting to pick out yarn, they also learned the first steps of crocheting, including slip knots and chain stitches. Their creations look sew good!

City Art Explorers spent their week discovering and making amazing art! 🎨 Visits to the Asian Art Museum | San Francisco and SFMOMA inspired them, while a trip to SCRAP provided the perfect supplies for tinkering and printmaking. Campers also visited nearby Clarion Alley to sketch from murals that they crafted into clay tiles and thrifted tees from Community Thrift Store to draw on! ✍️

Sheep and chickens and plants oh my! 🌱 Last week, preschool campers explored Animals & Nature. They learned how to care for the sheep, chickens, and plants in our garden. 🪱🔍 They took on garden scavenger hunts, dug for worms, and picked fresh fruit from our trees to bake into a peach pie. 🥧

Back in the classroom, they did an ice age experiment, crafted animals from clay, made flower crowns, built habitats, explored geodes, studied life cycles, and played animal charades. 🌸 It was a wild week! 🐯

We were all so WOWed by the amazing looks our Fashion & Jewelry Design campers came up with last week! 🪡 After days of crafting creative costumes, they ended the week with a fashion show, sharing what they made with fellow campers. Congratulations to the designers!!

Holy cannoli! 👨‍🍳 Our early childhood campers had so much fun making cannolis and pesto bean salads with last week! Throughout the rest of their cooking-themed week, preschoolers made their own daily snacks, harvested food from our garden, and tried new recipes.

Campers also learned about nutrition and cutlery safety. When kids get a chance to be a part of cooking, they’re more likely to try new things! We hope these campers came home more curious about the kitchen and with a few new favorite foods.

From farm to table 🥒 our Farmers Market campers got a chance to explore local markets this week, making delicious snacks from their shopping trips in the afternoon!

🍑 Campers’ adventures began in our own Farm & Garden on Monday, where they picked peaches and made a yummy crumble!

🍅 On Tuesday, they sampled food at the Ferry Building Marketplace Foodwise farmers market, chopping up veggies for a delicious bruschetta.

🥬 Wednesday brought campers to the Heart of the City Farmers’ Market where they got all the goodies for bibimbap, a new dish for many campers.

🪴 Today, campers visited the College Hill Learning Garden to learn more about where food comes from, how to eat locally, and why composting matters. They got a chance to plant their own seeds to take home, too!

Science in the summertime! 🔬 Our early childhood campers enjoyed a first week full of science and sensory explorations. Campers learned about:

🧪 Mixtures and combinations, making sensory bottles, playdough, and oobleck using real beakers and measuring cups.

🌱 Natural materials, using magnifying glasses to make observations.

🎨 Color chemistry, discovering primary colors, digging into dyed-rice sensory bins, tie-dyeing, and creating "color explosions" with .sf.

Campers learned that when you look closely, science is happening everywhere!
