Preschoolers are some of the most naturally somatic beings on the planet — few humans have such effortless access to their emotions, sensations, instincts, and full-bodied expression.
So it felt especially aligned to teach their parents a handful of SoMagic nervous-system practices last Monday night at — a room filled with tiny wooden tables, brightly colored chalk, and all the reminders of small-human wonder. We played with tools for regulating themselves while tending to their little somatic geniuses in all their glorious, sometimes overwhelming aliveness… and practices to help them remember their own full, embodied selves outside of the parenting role.
Hackysacks were tossed back and forth in a bilateral stimulation exercise, inner critic voices were shaken up and rewritten into kinder stories, and sensory practices offered ways to return to present-moment ease in the midst of chaos. There were rich, intimate questions and an abundance of delightful, goofy laughter — reminding us that our bodies have much needed wisdom for us.
Huge thank you to , Sunset Co-op’s director, for the invitation; to the badass humans and mamas .hoppes and for suggesting .verlee as a facilitator; and to all the wonderful neighbors/parents who showed up, shook their bodies, and played along for such a fun, resourcing evening.
If you’re connected to an organization, school, club, non-profit, business — or even a group of friends — that might benefit from a .play.book “work”shop or other body-based facilitation, reach out! We’d love to bring this offering to your community.
