It is at this point that we are in our prime; that we have the most to offer the world even though our culture may be sending us messages that, as older women, we are becoming irrelevant.

In this podcast, Jessica Waugh, a Certified Menopause Specialist, will dispel many myths about menopause. She says this about her own journey:

"Most people are shocked when they hear I hit perimenopause in my mid-30s. At 34, I faced vaginal dryness, low libido, mood swings, hot flashes — and doctors just said, “Your labs are normal.” But I knew better. I dove into hormones, metabolism, and functional wellness, reclaimed my energy, and got my life back. Now, I help women like you stop guessing, get real answers, and feel like yourself again. You’re not alone — I’m here to help."

The 𝘄𝗶𝘀𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗮𝘅 nobody talks about

Every time an experienced woman leaves the workforce “for good,” an organization loses something it can't post a job listing for: thirty years of judgment. Not technical skill — that gets trained. Judgment. The instinct for what will actually work, built from a thousand small decisions made under pressure.

Companies pay enormous hidden costs — bad hires, repeated mistakes, slow decisions — when that judgment walks out the door too early. Antiretirement is partly about refusing to let your judgment retire just because your job did.

Where could your judgment still be worth more than your hours? Play around with this question, and let us know below what you come up with. It will be fun to compare the “possibles.”

The retirement countdown is a story someone else wrote for you.

Somewhere along the way, a number got attached to your life — 55, 62, 65 — and you were told that's when you stop. Nobody asked if it fit. They just handed you the script.

Antiretirement starts with a simple act of rebellion: questioning who actually wrote that timeline. Was it your body? Your values? Your sense of purpose? Or was it a pension system designed in 1935, for a workforce and a life expectancy that no longer exist? You may indeed want to retire from your current position or to simply leave, but that doesn't mean you want to step into a traditional retirement.

You get to write your own number — or decide there isn't one, and to decide what’s next for you.

I recently interviewed a friend and former colleague who had retired. I was eager to talk to her about it, as I know approaching “that time” can be very stressful, if not downright terrifying. As a dedicated scientist her entire life, she was accustomed to viewing things as experiments. Therefore, what if she thought about retirement as an experiment? She decided to think about the positive things she got out of working in terms of buckets. Learn more on about her process and how it's helped with her transition below - what are your important buckets?

We look back on earlier times as the “good old days,” conveniently forgetting the difficulties we lived through. In a sense, we’ve made yesterday better than it was—and we long for that idealized past. We might regret leaving a relationship or a job, and in hindsight make it far more appealing than it actually was. It’s a somewhat twisted way of coping: imagining today could be better if only we’d made different decisions—or had different experiences—in the past. Learn more about this in our most recent blog post below.

Women Over 50: The Good Old Days… Really? We look on earlier times as “good old days,” forgetting the difficulties we lived through.
