As clergy, congregants, and lay leaders, we are equals in a community of accountability. The capacity to live within boundaries and to make ethical decisions marks us as having the capacity to function with fitness, trustworthiness, and integrity in ministry.

One denominational definition of fitness reads: "Being 'fit' for ministry presupposes that a minister is prepared for ministry by: a call to ministry from God; education; [and] a combination of gifts, talents, and traits of personality to allow for the gracious and trustworthy performance of ministry."
